Lead Art Director

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead Art Director based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to shape innovative digital experiences and creative campaigns for leading brands in a collaborative, global environment.
The successful candidate will combine strong artistic vision, strategic thinking, and hands-on design expertise to create impactful brand experiences.
Working across advertising, digital products, and emerging technologies, you will help define creative directions and elevate visual storytelling.
You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including UX designers, strategists, developers, and creative professionals to deliver exceptional work.
The role encourages experimentation, continuous learning, and the use of modern AI-enabled design practices.
You will play a key role in transforming ideas into engaging experiences that connect brands with diverse audiences.
This is an opportunity for an experienced creative leader to influence design standards and mentor others while working remotely in Canada.

Accountabilities:

The Lead Art Director will be responsible for driving high-quality creative execution across digital experiences and brand initiatives. This role requires a balance of conceptual creativity, technical design expertise, and strong collaboration skills to deliver solutions that meet client goals and user needs.

  • Create and execute highly polished visual concepts, campaigns, and creative directions aligned with brand objectives and business outcomes.
  • Design engaging digital experiences across web, mobile, and emerging platforms, including layouts, typography, visual systems, interfaces, and interaction patterns.
  • Translate brand strategies and narratives into scalable digital experiences that balance creativity, usability, accessibility, and performance.
  • Develop and present creative concepts through mood boards, prototypes, sketches, storyboards, and high-fidelity design explorations.
  • Participate in workshops, brainstorming sessions, design reviews, and critiques by contributing innovative ideas and creative perspectives.
  • Build interactive prototypes and motion studies using modern design tools to communicate intended user experiences.
  • Contribute to the development of design systems, component libraries, style guides, and brand guidelines.
  • Apply inclusive design principles and accessibility best practices to create experiences for diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with UX designers, strategists, copywriters, developers, creative teams, and client stakeholders throughout project lifecycles.
  • Maintain exceptional standards for design quality, documentation, presentations, and client engagement.
  • Stay current with emerging design methodologies, AI-powered workflows, and new creative technologies to improve team capabilities.
  • Support and mentor junior designers through feedback, knowledge sharing, and best-practice guidance.
  • Help strengthen collaboration across teams and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced creative professional with a strong portfolio, excellent communication skills, and a passion for combining creativity, technology, and strategic thinking. They should be comfortable working in fast-paced consulting environments and managing multiple priorities.

  • 7+ years of experience in an agency, consultancy, studio, or similar environment creating advertising concepts and digital experiences.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual craft, art direction, conceptual thinking, and brand-led experience design.
  • Deep expertise in visual design, UI design, and digital brand experiences across multiple platforms.
  • Proven ability to translate strategic objectives, user needs, and brand narratives into compelling creative solutions.
  • Excellent English communication skills with the ability to present ideas, influence stakeholders, and collaborate across North American teams.
  • Ability to confidently explain and defend design decisions while remaining open to feedback and collaboration.
  • Strong understanding of interaction design, information architecture, and user-centered design methodologies.
  • Experience creating interactive prototypes and translating concepts into engaging user experiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience using AI-enabled design workflows for ideation, visual exploration, asset creation, prototyping, and productivity improvements.
  • Advanced proficiency with Figma and related design tools, including AI-powered features and plugins.
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies and enthusiasm for evolving modern design practices.
  • Experience with advertising, luxury hospitality, travel, aviation, or premium consumer brands is considered an asset.
  • Experience collaborating with multicultural, distributed teams and multidisciplinary groups is an advantage.
