Hougum Law Firm is seeking a Medicaid Coordinator who is detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about helping clients through complex processes with empathy and professionalism.
Position Overview
The Medicaid Coordinator will support the Lifecare Benefits Planner and attorneys in preparing and processing Medicaid applications, gathering required documentation, communicating with clients and state agencies, and maintaining organized case files. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Lifecare Benefits Planner with the preparation, submission, renewals, and follow-up of Medicaid applications.
- Gather, organize, and review financial documents, bank statements, and other required records from clients.
- Communicate with clients, family members, financial institutions, and government agencies to obtain necessary information.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files and electronic records in the firm’s case management system.
- Draft correspondence, legal forms, and client communications related to Medicaid eligibility and asset protection planning.
- Track application deadlines, requests for information, and agency responses to ensure timely completion.
- Support and guide clients in preparing spend-down plans, asset transfers, and other Medicaid-related strategies.
- Schedule client meetings and assist with follow-up tasks and documentation.
- Provide administrative support such as scanning, copying, mailing, preparing and sending eSign documents, assisting with internal client paperwork, and organizing files as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a legal, financial, or administrative support role (Medicaid or elder law experience strongly preferred).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and document management systems.
Preferred:
- Prior experience working in an estate planning, elder law, or Medicaid planning firm.
- Familiarity with Medicaid eligibility rules, asset limits, and application procedures.
- Experience with legal case management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase, or similar).
