Reliability Operator II in Newburyport, Massachusetts at Rochester Electronics

The Reliability Lab Operator II is responsible for independently setting up and operating a wide range of environmental stress and reliability test equipment in the Environmental Stress Screening and Reliability Lab. This role includes planning and executing reliability test sequences, analyzing results, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal procedures. The Operator II will also provide technical guidance, troubleshoot equipment issues, and may train junior staff to maintain high-quality and efficient lab operations.

Responsibilities

• Operates various environmental stress equipment, such as temperature cycling chambers, centrifuges, fine and gross leak preconditioning equipment, fine and gross leak detectors, etc.
• Selects semiconductor component samples from production lots and performs reliability testing using a variety of environmental and mechanical test equipment designed to validate the quality and reliability of the components.
• Runs and evaluates reliability tests that include marking permanency (resistance to solvents), bond pull, solderability, die shear, hermeticity (fine and gross leak), temperature cycling, thermal shock, moisture resistance, constant acceleration (centrifuge), mechanical shock, salt atmosphere, lead integrity, physical dimensions, lid torque, and variable frequency vibration.
• Performs outgoing visual inspections.
• Ensure proper handling, use and disposal of chemicals, implements safety improvements.
• Accurately process documentation and record keeping.
• Performs scheduled 5S in the reliability lab.
• Maintains inventory control for materials and hardware.
• Responsible for training and mentoring other staff in reliability testing and quality procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• No prior experience is required, as on-the-job training will be provided. However, prior experience in electronics manufacturing is a plus; or other equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Basic understanding of how to read a Statistical Process Control (SPC) chart, required.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks accurately and with attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently, learn concepts and operate tools, perform basic mathematical functions.
• Effective interpersonal and problem solving skills
• Basic computer skills, such as MS Word & Excel
• Ability to process documents and keep meticulous records
• Ability to organize and maintain a safe and clean workplace
• A high degree of hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity is required (must be able to manipulate small, delicate samples with small tweezers while observing under a microscope)
• Must be comfortable with and assorted benchtop test equipment, if required by the process.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, AS9120 or TS16949 is a plus.
