INTRODUCTION:
The Patient Registration Specialist II works together to facilitate the coordination of patient visits by scheduling clinic appointments, performing the check in process; including updates and new patient registration, gathering and verifying patient insurance information, and assisting patients in determining eligibility for benefits and services of the Oregon Health Plan, Medicare, other third party insurance’s, and PRC. Also serves as the key personnel for reception duties.
DUTIES:
- Communicate effectively with the patients over the phone and at the front reception desk to include discussing treatment options and outcomes, schedule/reschedule appointments, time-frames and handling complaints in a positive manner.
- Utilizing appropriate functions of electronic health & dental record.
- Answers all incoming calls, screens callers, and takes messages.
- Schedule patients in an efficient manner to maximize treatment time and reduce broken appointments. Schedules are filled to the capability of the provider and the goals of the clinic.
- Performs check in process at time of appointment for scheduled patients.
- Verifies patient demographics at visit. Checks Oregon Health Plan system (MMIS) for OHP coverage at time of service.
- Determine eligibility of patients seeking clinic services by requesting documentary proof of Indian ancestry and/or tribal membership, according to IHS guidelines.
- Registers new patients, updates information of existing patients and scans in documentation.
- Assists patients in determining eligibility for the OHP, other insurance plans and in identifying alternative resources for reimbursement of services rendered.
- Explains benefits and services covered by insurance’s and Purchased/Referred Care.
- May also perform other duties as needed and assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED and 12-months experience in a health care setting with at least 6 months experience in a dental office – OR - an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Knowledge of:
- Record keeping and scheduling appointments, preferred.
- Dental terminology, preferred.
- Dental insurances knowledge, preferred.
Ability to:
- Relate and communicate well to clinic patients, tribal staff, medical reception, insurance companies as well as federal, state and local health agencies and the general public.
- Handle possible stressful situations involving explanation of insurance eligibility and benefits to patients.
- Accurately input data into a computer system.
- Be well organized and able to handle a large volume of work.
- Develop and maintain positive working relations with patients, their families, health staff, tribal staff, as well as professional groups.
