Job Summary
The Maintenance and Grounds Associate is responsible for the maintenance of the grounds and landscapes of one or more locations, which includes the operation of electrically powered and gasoline-powered groundskeeping equipment and machines, and the use of small hand and power tools or equipment in planting, cultivating, and trimming grounds and landscaping. This position will also maintain physical structures through minor repairs.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Performs all maintenance of lawns, shrubs, flower beds and walkways which include trimming, pruning, fertilizing, watering, mulching and removal of dead or diseased plants.
- Mows lawn utilizing either push or riding mower, edging, trimming around trees, sidewalks and flower beds on weekly or as needed basis.
- Removes unsightly trash and debris from public areas by regularly inspecting grounds for debris; raking, sweeping and bagging leaves, debris, dirt and trash from streets, sidewalks, parking lots and transporting the trash to designated central collection points daily.
- Assists in preventing accidents resulting from snow- or ice-covered walkways by using shovels to remove snow and spread salt on snow- or ice-covered surfaces.
- Performs painting work in the preparation, patching, finishing, and maintaining of building structures, walls, woodwork, furniture, and equipment as needed.
- Ensures that ground maintenance equipment and building maintenance equipment are operational by performing routine and preventative maintenance and cleaning of tools, equipment and machines within reasonable capabilities.
- Makes repairs to buildings and other physical structures which may include brick and concrete work, minor plumbing and electrical work such as replacing fuses.
- Cleaning internal areas of buildings include buffing, dusting, sweeping, mopping and washing windows.
- Must be available to work weekends during the months of September and October to ensure success of our “busy season”
Education, Skills & Knowledge
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- At least three years of experience in groundskeeping is required
- Strong working knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in planting, cultivating, and trimming a variety of types of trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers and grasses
- Ability to read sufficiently to understand written work orders and instructions as well as directions for the proper mixture, use, and disposal/storage of cleaners, solvents, chemicals, fertilizers and similar products used in groundskeeping is required.
- Experience in the proper operation and maintenance of grounds maintenance tools, equipment, and machinery is required.
- Ability to effectively communicate, in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
