Adjunct Instructor - PTB/PD

The Adjunct Instructor for BSON acts as course team faculty member, responsible for teaching components and participating in course development activities for one or more courses in the classroom, skills laboratory, simulation laboratory and clinical settings. Implements evidence-based teaching and learning strategies for a student-centered learning experience. Shares responsibility for assessing, planning, and evaluating one or more courses or components of the curriculum and shares responsibility for program development and evaluation. Responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with faculty, staff, students, hospital personnel and community agencies to ensure course and program effectiveness.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

As course team faculty member:

    • Collaborates with the course team and course coordinator(s) to develop and coordinate a nursing course or component of the curriculum.
    • Participates in course team meetings.
    • Supervises and participates in teaching, assumes responsibility for student assignments, analyzes data essential to patient care.
      • Evaluates the course offering and student’s progression.
      • Selects appropriate learning experiences (e.g., simulation, interactive learning activities, use of multimedia).
      • Supervises and evaluates student learning (class, clinical, skills, simulation).
      • Completes weekly student feedback and submits all student evaluations to the Course Coordinator within one week at the conclusion of each clinical rotation.
      • Adheres to online substantive weekly feedback guidelines and grading.
      • Demonstrates organizational ability.
      • Assumes a professional role as a nurse leader.
      • Takes responsibility for orientation to any new course materials, content and any new clinical units in a timely fashion.
      • Acts independently, confers with Course Coordinator(s) regarding policy decisions/unusual circumstances.
      • Utilizes group dynamics to effect change and promote group productivity.
      • Analyzes situations utilizing problem-solving methods.
      • Participates in continuing education related to professional responsibilities.
      • Demonstrates knowledge of recent trends in nursing, education, community, and legislation.
      • Serves as a role model for the nursing profession.
      • Establishes effective communication channels.
      • Interacts collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, hospital personnel and community agencies.
      • Provides relevant or pertinent resources (e.g., EAP, domestic violence, campus safety) to assist with non-academic concerns..
      • Engages in scholarly activities that promote excellence in faculty practice (See Faculty Scholarship Policy).
      • Collaborates with the faculty, students, multidisciplinary healthcare team, and/ members of the community to promote an understanding of the nursing profession.
      • Engages in evidence-based clinical and academic practices (i.e., instructional strategies for all methods of learning, standards of clinical practice, assessment and evaluation methods, principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion)
      • Develops active learning strategies to engage the learner in dynamic interactive processes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):

  • Adjunct instructors must possess current licensure and registration in New York State as a Registered Professional Nurse, and a master’s degree in nursing.
  • Two years of recent clinical nursing experience relevant to the instructional area and/or evidence of leadership behaviors is required.
  • Must have reliable transportation for class, simulation, skills, and clinical.
  • Teaching experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Should be able to push/pull, lift/move 35 lb., be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing, and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers. Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period time in addition to being able to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance. Communication requirements include the ability to comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to communicate and read the English language.

Salary Range: $51/hour per diem Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
