As a Cardiac Cath Tech at UNC Health Appalachian, you’ll play a vital role in advanced cardiovascular procedures, supporting physicians and the care team in delivering high-quality diagnostic and interventional cardiac services. This role combines technical expertise, independent judgment, and collaboration to ensure safe and efficient patient care in a fast-paced procedural environment.

You’ll work closely with cardiologists and multidisciplinary teams while utilizing advanced imaging and monitoring technologies to support life-saving procedures.

Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: Starting at $33.44 per hour or more, based on education, experience, certification, and internal equity

What You’ll Do as a Cardiac Cath Tech Cardiac Procedure Support
  • Perform angiography, cardiac catheterization, and special procedures requiring independent judgment and technical expertise.

  • Assist physicians during invasive cardiology and radiology procedures.

  • Scrub, circulate, monitor, and record hemodynamic parameters in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

  • Provide patient-centered care while ensuring safety and comfort during procedures.

  • Demonstrate compassion and respect for the dignity and individuality of each patient.

  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of practice.

Collaboration & Communication
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, leadership, and healthcare team members.

  • Foster strong working relationships that support a healthy and collaborative work environment.

  • Assist coworkers, patients, and visitors as needed within scope of practice.

Qualifications Minimum Education
  • Graduate of an AMA-accredited Radiologic Technology program or RCIS program

  • Completion of an approved Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT) program or equivalent on-the-job training accepted

Experience
  • Clinical radiographic and imaging experience from an AMA-accredited radiologic program required

  • Previous Cardiac Cath Lab or special procedures experience preferred

Licensure & Certifications
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in the state of North Carolina

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association required at time of hire

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 90 days of hire

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with patients, families, staff, and physicians

  • Competence in delivering safe and effective patient care within licensure and hospital policy limits

  • Knowledge of the continuum of care within the cardiovascular procedural environment

  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills

  • Commitment to patient safety, service excellence, and high-quality care

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, position, push, pull, and transfer patients or equipment weighing 50+ pounds

  • Manual dexterity and mobility for technical procedural work

  • Prolonged standing, walking, and movement during procedures

  • Frequent bending, squatting, twisting, and reaching

  • Near visual acuity for detailed procedural work and monitoring

Work Environment
  • Frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens

  • Exposure to electrical and mechanical medical equipment

  • Exposure to chemicals, specimens, and other clinical hazards

  • Irregular hours including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations

  • Extended standing and walking (8+ hours per shift)

  • Frequent patient mobilization and repetitive technical tasks

  • Exposure to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation including X-ray and related imaging equipment
