About This Position
Position Summary
ChimneyTEK is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented NFI Certified Chimney Inspector to join our growing team in Glen Burnie, Maryland. This role is responsible for performing thorough chimney and venting system inspections, identifying safety hazards, and providing clear recommendations to homeowners. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, customer-friendly, and committed to delivering high-quality service.
Candidates with NFI Gas Specialist (NFI-GS) certification or experience inspecting gas fireplaces and venting systems are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 chimney inspections in accordance with NFPA 211 standards
- Inspect gas fireplaces, inserts, and venting systems for safety, performance, and code compliance
- Assess chimneys, flues, and venting systems for structural integrity and hazards
- Identify issues such as creosote buildup, blockages, improper drafting, and gas venting concerns
- Document inspection findings with detailed notes, photos, and reports
- Clearly explain inspection results and recommended services to customers
- Provide estimates for repairs, cleaning, relining, or gas system corrections as needed
- Ensure all work complies with local, state, and national safety codes
- Maintain and properly use inspection equipment, including cameras and diagnostic tools
- Collaborate with technicians and office staff to ensure seamless customer experience
- Stay current on industry standards, certifications, and best practices
Qualifications
- Required: NFI (National Fireplace Institute) Certification – Chimney Inspector
- Required: CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep (CCS) Certification
- Preferred: NFI Gas Specialist (NFI-GS) Certification
- Previous experience in chimney inspection, fireplace service, or related field preferred
- Strong understanding of NFPA 211 and venting standards
- Knowledge of gas appliance venting and safety practices
- Ability to diagnose structural and safety issues accurately
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Detail-oriented with strong documentation abilities
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions
- Comfortable using inspection cameras, ladders, and basic tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience servicing or troubleshooting gas fireplaces
- Sales experience in home services
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to climb ladders and access roofs safely
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights
