Civil Engineer I, II, and III roles provide professional engineering support within assigned functional areas. These positions contribute to the planning, design, review, and implementation of engineering projects while serving as a technical resource for staff, contractors, and the public.

Required Qualifications: VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field. For Engineer I, four years of relevant full-time experience will be assessed in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required to qualify for Engineer III. Depending on position, additional State and/or City certification(s) may be required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Key Responsibilities
- Research and analyze engineering data to prepare and update plans, reports, and correspondence.
- Review and design plans to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards for public works, utilities, street lighting, water and wastewater systems, and traffic engineering projects
- Perform essential engineering functions including site inspections, cost estimating, and monitoring project progress
- Prepare, evaluate, approve, and maintain engineering documentation such as specifications, invoices, proposals, grant applications, and permits
- Coordinate project implementation through collaboration with internal staff, contractors, consultants, and external agencies
- Respond to inquiries and resolve concerns from contractors, City staff, the public, and partner organizations
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to support continuous professional development
- Perform related duties as assigned, including training or supervising subordinate staff when appropriate
