About This Position
Job Function:
To assist in establishing a maintenance program for City properties, i.e. buildings, parks, and the downtown. This is skilled manual work in maintenance and repair tasks involving carpentry skill, construction, painting, and repairs.

Essential Duties:
- Performs repairs and maintenance of facilities, including cabinets, desks, tables, and other office furniture and administrative equipment.
- Performs general interior and exterior building maintenance and repairs, including drywall, painting, tiling, masonry, power washing, and minor air conditioning system repairs.
- Assists with office renovations.
- Performs rough and fine carpentry tasks.
- Performs general plumbing repairs and maintenance of plumbing systems and fixtures, including but not limited to water and sewer lines, sinks, faucets, and toilets.
- Ability to assist with HVAC and electrical needs.
- Possible independent repairs on HVAC systems.
- General equipment maintenance.
- Cleaning up of work sites after job completion.
- Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures. Follow Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Inspect City grounds and facilities and related facilities and equipment for needed repair or replacement using established guidelines and standards. Respond to safety issues within a 24 hours basis.
- Inspect work sites before, during and after completion to assure work is completed in a highly satisfactory and thorough manner. Ensure all tools, equipment and vehicles are properly taken care of.
- Assist with the maintenance of time, material and equipment use records.
- Attend and participate in professional group meeting; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in building and grounds and facilities construction, maintenance and repair.
- Work as a valuable and dependable team player to assist and improve programs, facilities and working conditions in the City.
- Must be able to work nights, weekends and special events.
- Essential employee during natural disaster to ensure a quick cleanup and restoration of the City.
- Can work independently or with a crew.
- Driving of City Vehicles (A valid Florida Driver’s License is required).
- Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and materials of the trade
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to make estimates of time and materials
- Works from sketches and plans; understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Skill in the care and use of tools, materials, and equipment common to the trade.
- Familiarity with the materials, methods, practices and equipment used in park grounds and facilities construction, maintenance and repair activities.
- Types and levels of operations, maintenance and repair activities generally performed in municipal park grounds and facilities operation and repair programs.
- Material Safety and Handling Standards management skill.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to clearly answer question by the public.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent and two (1) year combination of job experience.
- Most possess a valid (E) Florida Driver’s License.
- A comparable amount of education and/or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
- Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period.
- Must complete sexual harassment training annually
- HVAC experience preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to talk by means of spoken words.
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrections).
- Acceptable hearing (with or with hearing aid).
- Walking or standing for periods of time.
- Occasionally lift over 40 pounds.
- Occasionally work around noxious fumes, chemicals. insects, and excessive noise.
- The wearing of a back-support brace is mandatory with heavy lifting.
- Very frequently must bend, dig, reach over head, kneel, climb ladders, stairs, hear and speak will, and make detailed inspections.
- Must be able to operate power saw, drills, jackhammers, portable mixers, power trowels, an assortment of hand tools, edger, trowel, hand-float, bull-float, jitterbug, wheelbarrow, and a cement truck.
Environmental Conditions:
- Works primarily in the outdoor environment and is subject to sun, heat, humidity, rain, cold, and inclement weather.
- Works during daytime and nighttime hours.
