Process Engineer (Automotive) in Toledo, Ohio at Mobis North American LLC

COMPANY OVERVIEW:

ROLE SUMMARY:

• Leads the development, implementation, optimization, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
• Provides technical leadership for new product launches, engineering changes, equipment installations, automation projects, and manufacturing process improvements.
• Designs, develops, and validates manufacturing processes and equipment to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective production operations.
• Evaluates existing manufacturing systems and identifies opportunities to improve productivity, quality, throughput, ergonomics, and operational efficiency.
• Supports strategic business objectives through implementation of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Industry 4.0, and advanced automation solutions.
• Serves as a subject matter expert and technical resource for production, maintenance, quality, materials, and engineering teams.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS:

• Lead process development activities for new product launches, model year changes, and engineering changes.
• Develop and maintain Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Control Plans, Standardized Work Instructions, and Manufacturing Process Documentation.
• Analyze manufacturing data, downtime reports, cycle times, scrap, and quality metrics to identify and implement process improvements.
• Coordinate and manage equipment installation, commissioning, validation, and production readiness activities.
• Lead root cause analysis investigations utilizing methodologies such as 5-Why, Fishbone, A3, 8D, and corrective action processes.
• Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), throughput, first-pass yield, and production efficiency while maintaining safety and quality standards.
• Develop and implement automation, robotics, machine vision, and advanced manufacturing technologies to improve operational performance.
• Evaluate and improve manufacturing layouts, material flow, ergonomics, and workstation design.
• Collaborate with Quality, Maintenance, Production, Materials, Purchasing, and Commercial departments to resolve manufacturing issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Prepare technical reports, engineering studies, cost analyses, and project presentations for management review.
• Support APQP, PPAP, MSA, SPC, error-proofing, and customer-specific quality requirements.
• Manage manufacturing engineering projects, including budget development, capital expenditures (CAPEX), timeline management, and resource allocation.
• Research, evaluate, and implement new manufacturing technologies to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
• Lead production readiness reviews, pilot builds, equipment buy-offs, and launch support activities.
• Ensure compliance with all OSHA, environmental, corporate, and customer safety standards.
• Mentor Process Engineers, Engineering Technicians, and cross-functional team members while providing technical leadership throughout the facility.

REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline required.
• Minimum of seven (7) years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of automotive manufacturing experience preferred.
• Experience supporting automotive product launches, capital projects, process development, and continuous improvement initiatives required.
• Experience with APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, and MSA methodologies preferred.
• Experience with automation systems, robotics, machine vision systems, and manufacturing equipment integration preferred.
• Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience is strongly preferred.
• Project leadership experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment preferred.

PREFERRED:

• Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification preferred.
• Experience with robotics, automation, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
• Experience with PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment and industrial automation systems.
• Understanding of machine vision technologies and automated inspection systems.
• Proficiency with SAP, MES, and manufacturing data systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Power BI, and engineering data analysis tools.
• Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent engineering design software preferred.
• Strong knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes and Stellantis customer requirements preferred.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
