About the Role

The Social Worker is responsible for the provision and coordination of casework and therapeutic services for the residents of the Runaway Homeless Youth Shelter TIL Programs located in Coney Island Brooklyn AND Willis Av in the Bronx. The Social Worker will be required to regularly travel to both programs to meet with the residents. This position will be asked to facilitate individual and group sessions and write progress notes for these interactions. Clinical experience and knowledge of CBT or TFCBT preferred.

What You’ll Do

  • Help the youth identify and develop coping skills to help them successfully reach independence.
  • Provide casework and therapeutic services to residents of the shelter including referrals for entitlements, housing, and services, accompanying residents on appointments and fostering/facilitating relationships with other service providers to meet the needs of the residents of the program.
  • Develop, in concert with youth and the treatment team, Individualized Service Plans for youth as per DYCD Regulation.
  • Develop discharge plans and support networks for residents in the program.
  • Provide individual and group counseling and clinical workshops for youth.
  • Coordinate and monitor multi-disciplinary service provision including facilitating planning conferences and developing service/treatment plans.
  • Ensure the safety of all youth on caseload.
  • Maintain daily communication with childcare staff and program leadership.
  • Ensure that all residents are in possession of necessary legal documents, i.e., birth certificate, social security card, NY State ID.
  • Assist residents with Independent Living preparation, employment, and educational services.
  • Maintain up-to-date case record documentation and reports including progress notes, court reports, and all documentation required by city and state governing bodies.
  • Provide timely communication to DYCD.
  • Participate in staff meetings, multi-disciplinary meetings, and planning meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Work Environment:

This position is based at our TIL sites, a residential program for Runaway/Homeless Female Identified youth in the Bronx and Brooklyn. This position requires the Social Worker to be able to coordinate between both locations. They will be responsible for meeting, tracking, and following up with youth as necessary.



Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:


This is a full-time position which will require possibly being on-call for youth afterwork hours. Additionally, evening and weekend hours may be required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to work in-person in New York City (NY) for at least 3 days or more per week.
  • Ability to travel to other Rising Ground sites (if required).
