Position Title: Marine Technician (Junior) Job Location: Primarily Overseas (75–80%); CONUS periods in San Diego, CA or Baltimore, MD
Job Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $20-$34 per hour
Position Description
As a Junior Marine Technician, you will support the readiness and reliability of unmanned surface vessels and related maritime platforms supporting fleet operations, exercises, and extended overseas deployments. This role involves hands-on technical engagement, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational support during sustained deployments lasting 90–120 days, followed by approximately 30 days in CONUS before the next deployment cycle.
You will operate in industrial, austere, and on-water environments—often OCONUS—supporting technical operations, training, integration, and RDTE (Research, Development, Test, & Evaluation) events. OCONUS assignments may include remote or hazardous overseas locations requiring signed consent to deploy. While not typically customer-facing, you may at times work directly with customer personnel and stakeholders during field operations or training events.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): • Technical Expertise: Learn and support mechanical systems onboard unmanned surface vessels and prototype platforms, ensuring their operational readiness and reliability throughout extended deployments. • Maintenance & Repairs: Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on all mechanical systems, ensuring platforms remain mission-ready during overseas operations. • System Troubleshooting: Assist Techs and Senior Techs in identifying symptoms, diagnosing issues, and implementing corrective actions under guidance. • Deployment Support: Participate in recurring 90–120 day overseas deployments, operating in forward environments to directly support fleet exercises, testing campaigns, and maritime operations. • Operational Flexibility: Work in industrial, maritime, and austere locations, including naval facilities, foreign ports, and on-water environments.
Requirements:Required Skills/Education:
• 1+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical systems maintenance, repair, or field support • High school diploma or equivalent • Ability to obtain a Boater’s Safety (COLREGS) certificate
• Basic understanding of diagnosing and repairing mechanical systems • Familiarity with reading and interpreting technical documentation • Ability to perform effectively in high-tempo, on-water, and overseas environments • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with customers and technical teams • Adaptability and problem-solving mindset suitable for dynamic, forward-deployed operations • Willingness and ability to deploy overseas for 90–120 days at a time, with approximately 30 days in CONUS between deployments • Must be a US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
Note: Position includes a six-month probationary period requiring at least one full deployment.
Desired Skills/Education (not required): • Relevant technical certifications or vocational training in mechanical or marine systems • Experience with maritime or autonomous platforms • Familiarity with structured operational and safety protocols, fleet maintenance environments, or maritime operations • Experience working in industrial, austere, or military maritime facilities, including OCONUS environments
