Job Description

Are you looking for an opportunity to be part of an innovative team and make an impact on the lives of those affected by cancer? As a member of the Moffitt Non-Therapeutic Research Office (NTRO) you may interact directly with community members and patients to enroll, educate, and guide participants through the experience of taking part in research. You may support non-therapeutic research in other ways including data entry, project and protocol management and quality assurance. Regardless, you will be a member of a collaborative team that ensures non-therapeutic research activities are moving forward safely, smoothly, and according to plan.

Our NTRO Research team comes from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, including public health, psychology, biological sciences and more. There are opportunities for those who have worked in other areas of public health as well as those who are looking for a new and exciting opportunity. Team members of NTRO work closely with community members, patients, patient families, study sponsors, and clinical teams including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other health care providers.

These positions typically offer a Monday through Friday schedule, though some require occasional weekends. Moffitt offers training and orientation.

The Research Behavioral Treatment Specialist role will support one or more non-therapeutic studies under the research portfolio of Dr. Heather Jim, Principal Investigator (PI) to improve cancer outcomes by understanding and intervening on the behavior of individuals, social networks, healthcare systems, and communities.

Position Highlights:

  • Interventions are provided under the ongoing supervision of a licensed clinical psychologist.
  • The interventions are determined by the research protocol and are study specific. The individual performing this role will be trained for the specific intervention being delivered per the protocol; however. However, they should have a basic understanding of behavior change and good judgment on its implementation.
  • The role may also influence future design of behavioral intervention therapies and program design.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • At least one year providing cognitive-behavioral and/or psychosocial interventions to individuals in an inpatient or outpatient clinical therapeutic or research setting
  • Meticulous documentation, record-keeping skills, and research compliance
  • Willingness to adhere to structured manualized intervention protocols
  • Ability to multitask while consistently producing high quality work
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a larger research team, receptive to constructive feedback and pitching in to help when needed

Responsibilities:

  • Complete necessary trainings to meet competence to deliver cognitive-behavioral or psychosocial intervention to participants. These trainings include internal and external training experiences specific to the intervention to be delivered.
  • Meet with participants to provide behavioral treatment. These behavioral treatment sessions may occur up to once per week for several weeks or months, and last for between 15 and 90 minutes. These sessions are similar to what would be conducted in a clinical therapeutic setting.
  • Provide cognitive-behavioral or psychosocial interventions consistent with an established treatment manual. Disposition would expect to follow guidelines consistent with the delivery of evidence-based interventions (e.g., confidentiality, providing specific session content, train on how to handle challenging emotional and behavioral concerns).
  • Complete required research and regulatory related institutional training as applicable.
  • Deliver treatment consistent with the goals of the larger study. This position is unique since research will most likely need to be learned as part of this position. This position will be expected to not only understand the behavioral treatment component, but also learn the research part of this role and adhere to research regulations.
  • Document interactions with participants in accordance with OHRP and NTRO specific guidelines for human subjects work.
