Job Title: Controller

Department: Accounting

Reports to: Director of Finance or Other Designate

Essential Purpose: Responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and effective cost management to support operational profitability. This role manages the accounting team, ensures compliance with process and procedures, and works closely with the General Manager and department heads to drive financial performance and strategic decision-making.

Essential Duties:

  • Oversee all accounting operations including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Fixed Assets.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes in accordance with GAAP/IFRS.
  • Prepare and distribute timely financial statements, management reports, and KPIs.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit card transactions, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Monitor labor costs, food & beverage cost percentages, and departmental expenses.
  • Conduct inventory oversight for food, beverage, and operating supplies.
  • Partner with General Manager and operations leaders to drive financial performance.
  • Provide financial insights to improve profitability and cost efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with all accounting Standard Operating Procedures as specified in the SOP manual.
  • Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
  • Establish performance goals and provide ongoing feedback to accounting staff.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.
  • Provide financial training and guidance to department managers.
  • Participate in executive and operations meetings.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process.
  • Develop financial forecasts and variance analysis.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and report discrepancies.
Requirements:

Knowledge + Education: BS degree in Accounting, or equivalent experience required in a related field. English fluency required. Must have 5 – 10 years of progressive accounting experience. Minimum 3 years in hospitality accounting. Experience with hospitality systems, POS systems and accounting software.

Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP and hospitality accounting practices. High attention to detail and accuracy. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent leadership and communication skills. Ability to work in fast paced, service-driven environment. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Physical Demands: Stands/ walks approximately 20% of shift. Sits at desk or in meetings approximately 80% of shift. Uses personal computer approximately 30% of shift. Occasionally required to handle and move objects weighing up to 40 lbs. over short distances. Moderate to heavy use of phones, daily. Frequent use of stairs, daily. Requires extensive reading and computation.

Tribal Jurisdiction: The relationship between Temecula Creek Inn and the employee is a consensual commercial relationship taking place on tribal land within the Pechanga Indian Reservation and, as such, is subject to the jurisdiction of the Pechanga Tribal Court and the sovereign laws of the Pechanga Band of Indians.
