- Interpret and enforce all sport-specific rules and adaptations.
- Supervise and control conduct on field in a safe and professional manner.
- Attend all game dates as scheduled.
- Assists in the recommendation and evaluation of improvements to programs that will provide maximum enjoyment for all the participants.
- Provides supervision at all playing fields.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Preps fields for play if necessary.
- Ensures visibility and availability to staff, coaches, participants and fans to answer questions.
- Listens to concerns, resolves problems and corrects inappropriate behavior. Communicate any issues to Field Supervisor and/or Recreation Coordinator.
- Assists with ensuring the safety of participants, maintains discipline, makes weather-based decisions and assists with handling complaints from the public.
- Performs first aid as required, depending on training and certification.
- Complies with District and department rules and regulations, policies and procedures.
- 14 years of age or older.
- Attendance at officials training provided by the Highlands Ranch Metro District recreation staff is required.
- Practical experience in athletics, recreation, physical education, or related field.
- Knowledge of officiating, sports, and recreation.
- Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
- Current CPR and First Aid preferred; or the ability to obtain certification within 1 month.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, officials, coaches, volunteers, participants, and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Must become proficient in rules of play for assigned sport.
- Must be assertive and able to make decisions in fast paced conditions.
- Represent the District in a professional manner, exemplifying integrity and excellence always.
- Must be able to work flexible schedule on evenings and weekends.
Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and Field Supervisor.
Supervision ExercisedSupervises games assigned to officiate, provides supervision of participants, and supports supervision of spectators, and volunteers.
Tools and Equipment UsedPhone/cell phone and various sports equipment that are used in recreation programs.
Work ScheduleThis is a seasonal, part-time position working from 8-15 hours per week, March through October, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
