Groundskeeper at Pomfret School Incorporated – Pomfret, Connecticut

Job Purpose:

Maintain the aesthetic appeal and health of the Pomfret School landscape and ensure that grounds are safe for the campus community

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Complete assigned daily maintenance per the Lead Groundskeeper
• Complete seasonal grounds maintenance work including snow and ice removal, planting bed maintenance, tree and shrub care, spring clean-up and fall leaf clean-up
• Complete work orders within the assigned time frame
• Ability to write routine instructions, reports, logs, and descriptions of equipment problems and needs
• Execute daily, preventative maintenance operations on all assigned vehicles and equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.
• Wear all required safety equipment when conducting work
• Provide assistance to other department members as needed in the completion of work tasks and provide appropriate support for major events such as but not limited to Commencement and Opening of School
• Adhere to all School policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook
• Continually meet or exceed Pomfret School’s Standards of Behavior, Character, and Engagement
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 1-3 years landscape maintenance
• Knowledge of grounds equipment maintenance
• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent technical school certification
• Must hold and maintain a valid unrestricted US driver’s license
• OSHA Certification preferred

Work Conditions:

Physical Environment:

• Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions
• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, hazardous chemicals, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat
• Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles
• Usually exposed to moderate noise level

Physical Demands:

• Operates a motor vehicle on a daily basis
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, often lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
• Regularly climb and/or balance up to 10 feet, and often climb and or balance up to 25 feet
• Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel
• Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, and taste or smell
• Occasionally required to sit
• Regular use of close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
