Sr FinOps Cloud Engineer

Focus: Execution, Migration, and Infrastructure Governance

You are the technical engine of the FinOps team. You don't just "move workloads"; you analyze the target environment for efficiency, communicate migration risks to app owners, and use a critical eye to hunt down architectural waste. You are the bridge between the Architect's high-level strategy and the actual cloud console.

Key Responsibilities

• Migration Execution & Risk Analysis: Perform hands-on migrations from Azure/AWS to IBM Cloud Bare Metal. Critically evaluate source workloads to ensure the destination instance is right-sized—not just a 1:1 "lift and shift" of waste.
• Waste Elimination & Automation: Own the "Cleanup" backlog. Use analytical thinking to identify patterns in orphaned resources and write scripts to automate their removal across the enterprise.
• Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary technical point of contact for app owners during migrations. You must clearly communicate the "why" behind cost-saving changes and coordinate maintenance windows with precision.
• Daily Spend Forensics: Monitor AI and Cloud spend daily. Beyond just "alerting," you must perform a root-cause analysis (RCA) on spend anomalies to determine if they are legitimate growth or technical leakage.
• Commitment & Tagging Governance: Execute RI/Savings Plan purchases and enforce strict tagging compliance. You are responsible for ensuring 100% of cloud resources are analytically traceable to a business unit.

Professional & Analytical Requirements

• Communication Mastery: Ability to translate technical migration steps into clear, non-technical status updates for project managers and business stakeholders.
• Critical Thinking: A "skeptical" mindset toward cloud defaults. You should instinctively question why a database needs 2TB of premium storage if only 10% is utilized.

Required Experience & Technical Skills

Category	Requirement
Cloud Platforms	4–6 years of hands-on admin in Azure & AWS (Associate/Professional level); hands-on with IBM Cloud / Classic Bare Metal.
Networking	VMware NSX, PfSense, and Fortinet. You must understand the data-flow logic to avoid breaking apps during a move.
Migration Tools	Expert use of VMware HCX, Carbonite, or Azure/AWS native migration services.
AI & Strategic Tools	Ability to use AI/LLMs to refactor simple scripts, analyze complex log files for waste, and generate technical documentation.
Compliance & Backup	Knowledge of backup/recovery (Veeam, Zerto, or native) to ensure "Eliminate" tasks never impact data durability.
