About This Position

Description:

Drives Class A, single axle or tandem axle day cab with capacity of 45,000 lbs., delivering materials to and from customer shops and job sites performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Drives truck to destination providing accurate, timely and courteous service.
  • Collects signature for goods delivered.
  • Collects payment for goods delivered if required following proper procedures with COD/cash deliveries.
  • Maintains driver logbook or ELD device, trip reports, fuel tickets, toll tickets, vehicle condition reports to comply with state and federal regulations.
  • Operates truck following all safety policies, laws, maintains safe driving record, and notifies supervisor of any violations.
  • Inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.
  • Conducts pre-trip inspections per regulations/policy.
  • Operates slide side curtain trailers.
  • Secures load using runners, boards, ratchet straps, chains, binders around items to secure cargo during transit.
  • Ensures proper load stability and balance.
  • Recommends optimal delivery route to assure quick delivery and timely service to customers.
  • Observes all company safety practices and procedure.
  • Presents professional images in appearance and behavior with customers, vendors, and co-workers.
  • Accurately verifies items and quantities during delivery.
  • Reports and documents all delivery variances.
  • Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
  • Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet.
  • Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.
  • Palletizes materials on to pallets and shrink wraps or bands material securely on pallet.
  • Lifts heavy objects by hand or with power hoist, cleans work area, machines, and equipment.
  • Operates sit down forklifts, standup electric lifts, moffets, pallet jacks, hand trucks, carts, to assist in loading or moving materials and products; moves levers and presses peals to drive lift and control movement of lifting apparatus.
  • Ensures products are handled in accordance to established standards.
  • Controls and accounts for materials to minimize loss and damage.
  • Responsible for staging, transporting, shipping, or returning products into and out of the warehouse.
  • Some data entry computer work required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); twelve months CDL driving experience required.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have current driver’s license, as well as be D.O.T. certified with CDL license, Class A. Hazardous Materials Endorsement preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires the ability to safely operate a Class A commercial vehicle for extended periods, including prolonged sitting, constant use of hand and foot controls, and sustained focus. The role involves frequent loading and unloading of freight, requiring the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing between 50 and 75 pounds. Drivers must be capable of climbing in and out of the truck and trailer, performing routine inspections, and bending, stooping, reaching, and securing loads. The position also requires working in varying weather conditions and navigating diverse road environments.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in a dynamic work environment that includes both on-the-road and outdoor conditions. Drivers spend extended periods in a commercial vehicle and are regularly exposed to varying weather, temperatures, and road conditions. The role may involve working near moving mechanical parts, traffic, and loading equipment, as well as frequent stops at customer or warehouse locations. Schedules may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overnight routes, depending on business needs.
