This is an on-site, in-person position located in Jacksonville, FL.
Position Summary:
The Lead, Fiber Installation Technician is responsible for supporting the installation, splicing, and maintenance of fiber optic networks while providing day-to-day guidance to technicians in the field. This role performs advanced technical work, ensures adherence to safety and quality standards, and supports coordination of installation activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and support field crews by providing guidance, training, and coordination of daily work activities
- Perform and oversee fiber installation, splicing, termination, and troubleshooting for FTTH and enterprise networks, including advanced fusion and mechanical splicing
- Use testing equipment (e.g., OTDR, power meters, light sources) to verify network performance and troubleshoot issues
- Prepare and install fiber infrastructure, including cable trays, cabinets, racks, fiber drops, routers, and ONTs
- Conduct site surveys to assess installation requirements and ensure proper setup
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and quality expectations in all field operations
- Coordinate with supervisors and project managers to support project timelines and issue resolution
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex installations, service issues, and troubleshooting in the field
- Support dispatch coordination and assist technicians in resolving service tickets efficiently
- Ensure team adherence to installation quality standards, safety protocols, and company procedures
- Monitor and support team performance against key metrics, including installation completion rates, quality standards, and customer satisfaction (CSAT)
- Assist in training and onboarding new technicians, providing hands-on guidance and technical support
- Perform advanced troubleshooting of fiber, Wi-Fi, and network connectivity issues beyond standard technician scope
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all field activities, including installs, service calls, and testing results
- Provide day-to-day field leadership in the absence of the Supervisor, ensuring continuity of operations and decision-making
- Perform other duties as needed
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing
- Proficiency in fiber termination, cable preparation, and reading network diagrams and splice drawings
- Experience using fiber testing equipment, including OTDR and power meters
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to work in confined spaces, climb ladders/poles, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in varying weather conditions
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Preferred:
- Fiber optic certifications (e.g., FOA, BICSI)
- Experience leading or mentoring technicians in a field environment
- Experience with FTTH or commercial fiber installations
- Familiarity with network equipment installation and configuration
