Position Title: Assistant Principal

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Reports to: Principal

Position Objective

The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in the spiritual, educational, and administrative leadership of the Catholic school. The Assistant Principal fosters a Christ-centered environment rooted in Catholic teaching and academic excellence while assisting in the day-to-day management of the school. This role is integral in promoting faith formation, instructional leadership, and school-wide operations in alignment with the mission of the Diocese of Kansas City–St. Joseph.

Essential Duties

  • Support the Principal in promoting the Catholic identity of the school through prayer, liturgy, and integration of faith across the curriculum.
  • Encourage and model a personal relationship with Jesus Christ for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Collaborate with teachers to ensure Catholic values are incorporated into teaching and student life.
  • Support the implementation of school improvement plans and accreditation standards.
  • Work with the Principal and faculty on progress monitoring and documentation for accreditation processes.
  • Support and facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
  • Assist in mentoring new teachers and coordinating in-service training aligned with diocesan initiatives.
  • Participate in and occasionally lead faculty meetings, professional learning communities, and retreats.
  • Support the Principal in supervising instruction and ensuring curricular alignment with diocesan and state standards.
  • Oversee the administration of assessments such as RISE, iReady, and ACT.
  • Collaborate with teachers to interpret data and apply results to instructional practices.
  • Help coordinate academic support services and programs for diverse learners.
  • Assist with student discipline, attendance, supervision, and the maintenance of a safe school environment.
  • Apply consistent, fair, and faith-based discipline strategies that uphold Catholic teachings, ensuring a respectful, safe, and nurturing learning environment for all students.
  • Help coordinate school-wide events, assemblies, parent communication, and emergency preparedness.
  • Support the enrollment process through student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Provide support to the principal to ensure compliance with safe environment requirements and diocesan policies for all staff and school volunteers`.
  • Demonstrate and maintain a professional appearance that reflects the dignity and mission of Catholic education, setting a visible standard of excellence and respect for faculty, students, and the wider school community.
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance, reporting to work on time and adhering to assigned schedules to ensure the safety, supervision, and continuity of care for all students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to lead and support the Catholic mission of the school.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, parents, faculty, school, and parish staff.
  • Effective organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with discretion.
  • Confidence in instructional leadership and data-driven decision-making.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, student information systems, and digital learning tools.

Basic Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, committed to the mission of Catholic education.
  • Complete and maintain diocesan safe environment expectations.
  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or related field (or in progress).
  • Missouri Administrative Certification (or ability to obtain within a specified time).
  • Minimum of 3 years successful teaching experience, preferably in a Catholic school.
  • Prior classroom leadership or administrative experience preferred.
