About the Role:
The Assistant Coach Volleyball position plays a critical role in supporting the head coach to develop and enhance the volleyball program within an educational setting. This role focuses on fostering athletes' technical skills, strategic understanding, and teamwork to achieve competitive success and personal growth. The assistant coach will contribute to planning and conducting practice sessions, analyzing game performance, and providing constructive feedback to players. Additionally, the role involves mentoring student-athletes to promote sportsmanship, discipline, and academic balance. Ultimately, the assistant coach helps build a positive, inclusive, and motivating environment that encourages athletic excellence and personal development.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience playing or coaching volleyball at the high school or collegiate level.
- Strong knowledge of volleyball rules, techniques, and strategies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, coaches, and school staff.
- Basic first aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as an assistant or head volleyball coach in an educational setting.
- Certification from recognized coaching organizations (e.g., USA Volleyball Coaching Accreditation Program).
- Experience working with adolescent athletes and understanding of youth development principles.
- Demonstrated ability to foster team cohesion and positive athlete relationships.
- Knowledge of sports psychology and injury prevention techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the head coach in planning and executing daily practice sessions and training drills.
- Provide individualized coaching to players to improve their skills, techniques, and game strategies.
- Analyze team and individual performance during games and practices to identify areas for improvement.
- Support the recruitment and evaluation of prospective student-athletes in alignment with program goals.
- Promote a positive team culture emphasizing respect, discipline, and academic achievement.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant athletic regulations, safety protocols, and school policies.
- Collaborate with other coaching staff and school personnel to coordinate schedules and resources.
- Attend games, tournaments, and team meetings, providing tactical support and motivation.
Skills:
The assistant coach will utilize strong communication skills daily to clearly instruct and motivate players, ensuring they understand techniques and strategies. Analytical skills are essential for assessing player performance and developing targeted improvement plans. Organizational skills help manage practice schedules, equipment, and game preparations efficiently.
