About This Position

AmericanAg®, a global provider of diversified reinsurance services, is looking for a Catastrophe Modeling Analyst to work out of our office in Schaumburg, Illinois. This is a hybrid position working in the office a minimum of three days a week.

The Catastrophe Modeling team at AmericanAg® provides catastrophe modeling support for insurer clients and reinsurance placements while helping them understand catastrophe risk and its impact across their portfolios. This includes developing and executing projects that assist our stakeholders in understanding what events are possible, what future events are likely to occur, and their frequency, along with how severe these events might be. If you are interested in building a career in the insurance industry, this might be a great fit for you.

The Catastrophe Modeling Analyst will be responsible for:

  • Obtaining, formatting, and reconciling underlying exposure data provided by clients or through broker channels.
  • Independently completing and reviewing most aspects of catastrophe modeling: importing into and running AIR and RMS catastrophe models, completing analyses, and interpreting and presenting results to clients.
  • Assisting clients to understand how their exposure profile impacts modeled results using GIS techniques or mapping tools.
  • Interacting with clients by responding to internal and external questions about data preparation, models, results, and current catastrophe events.
  • Supporting modeling of real-time scenarios during ongoing catastrophic events for clients’ direct and assumed portfolios.
  • Contributing to modeling aspects of the corporate roll-up.
  • Troubleshooting and escalating catastrophe modeling software issues.
  • Assisting with communicating model updates and impacts to results within the actuarial team and to clients.
  • Occasional travel to conferences and client offices to communicate important model changes or recent catastrophe losses, or evaluate modeling assumptions.

What you will bring to this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field required (e.g., actuarial science, atmospheric science, mathematics, statistics).
  • Prior work or internship experience in insurance preferred.
  • Foundational knowledge of insurance concepts and catastrophe modeling practices is a plus.
  • Proficient in SQL, Excel, and GIS software, with the ability to manipulate raw and modeled data.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills, with the ability to critically review catastrophe model output.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities often under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate and work successfully in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of AIR/RMS catastrophe modeling software.

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $65,000 and $80,000. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets.
