About This Position
The Student Support Coordinator is grant funded position with possibility of annual renewal. Under the direction of the PreK Counts program, the SSC will work with childcare directors, classroom staff, students, and families in the preschool childcare programs, specifically PreK Counts, at the Williamsport, Loyalsock, and Lock Haven branch locations. The goals of the position are to assist directors, staff, and families in creating a school environment that is positive and productive, where participants can grow, learn, and thrive. The SSC will provide behavioral supports, guidance for the Early Intervention or IEP process, and provide monitoring and other support as needed to childcare staff, directors, students, and families.
1. Promote excellence in daily program operations that support the provision of quality services for children and families, and a learning environment where all children and staff can thrive
2. Implement behavioral strategies and plans to meet or exceed State licensing standards as well as IDEA regulations, where applicable
3. Ensure ongoing observations of teacher and child interactions
4. Develop individual behavior plans and strategies with teaching staff, program leadership, and family members
5. Work collaboratively with teachers, families, community partners, and management staff in the best interest of the children
6. Be knowledgeable of community resources to support staff, students, and families
7. Be knowledgeable and competent regarding implementing performance standards, policies and procedures, positive behavior support, and other common educational tools including Ages and Stages
8. Be knowledgeable of best practices
9. Be a resource to parents and teaching staff in regards to behavior management and referrals for services
10. Identify barriers to services provided
11. Track all data related to the delivery of services to children in an organized, confidential manner
12. Assist in de-escalation of day-to-day behavioral incidents among program children
13. Compile program statistics and monitor the effectiveness of participation in programs and supports
14. Be able to relate to members of the programs that the YMCA offers and the YMCA’s mission statement
15. Be flexible
16. Follows appropriate dress code set forth by the Association
17. Adheres to policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and the Policy and Procedure Manual
18. This position will also require the employee to substitute in PreK Counts classrooms as needed
19. Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Requirements:To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must have the following qualifications in order to successfully perform the position. If the incumbent is lacking in any of the following qualifications upon hire, it is the incumbent’s duty to inform the YMCA.
1. Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Behavioral/Social Sciences, or Psychology
2. One to three years experience directly supervising children in a child care or school setting with high-needs students.
3. Experience working with children with developmental delays, speech delays, or autism, is required.
4. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
5. The ability to maintain a calm and patient demeanor under pressure is required.
6. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds.
7. Compliance with ACT 33, to include documentation of Child Abuse History (form CY-113), Criminal History (Form SP4- 164), FBI fingerprinting, the NSOR clearance, and mandated report training.
8. Current physical and TB test, CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire.
9. Must be 21 years of age and have a valid driver’s license, as well as reliable transportation.
