About the Township Exeter Township is a vibrant community located in southeastern Berks County, Pennsylvania, approximately 6 miles east of Reading. With a population of around 25,500, it is the third-most populous municipality in the county. Covering roughly 24 square miles, the Township offers a mix of suburban neighborhoods, historical landmarks, and scenic natural areas.

Position Overview Exeter Township is seeking a qualified and motivatedprofessional to serve as the Assistant Director of Public Works. This positionplays a key leadership role in overseeing daily operations of the HighwayDepartment, supporting the Director of Public Works through supervisory andadministrative responsibilities.

Duties include planning and assigning construction, repair,and seasonal maintenance projects; training, supervising, and evaluating staff;and overseeing a range of services such as road paving, stormwater systemmaintenance, snow and ice removal, signage installation, mowing, andgroundskeeping. This position also manages Township vehicles, equipment, andsecurity systems, assists in developing and adhering to the annual departmentalbudget, and ensures compliance with CDL and safety regulations. The AssistantDirector responds to emergency situations, supervises snow removal callouts,and attends Board of Supervisors and staff meetings as needed.

Typical work hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.Occasional evenings and emergency callouts are required.

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED andhave a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience inpublic works, municipal infrastructure, or a related field such as street orhighway maintenance. A valid Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License(CDL) is required.
