About This Position
A. T. Still University (ATSU) is seeking an exempt, full-time Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) - Admissions on the Kirksville, Missouri campus. This position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. The Assistant Vice Chancellor - Admissions provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for the university's residential admissions processes including applicant recruitment, selection, and retention. This leadership position is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing comprehensive enrollment strategies that align with the institution's mission, academic profile, and goals. The AVC ensures the efficiency, integrity, and compliance of all admissions operations while leading a high-performing team and fostering strong collaborative relationships across campus to meet ambitious enrollment targets.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Strategic Enrollment Management: Develop and execute multi-year enrollment plans, utilizing data analytics and market research to optimize student recruitment and yield for ATSU schools with campus locations in 3 states. In addition, provide research and develop recruitment strategy for new program expansion.
- Operational Oversight: Manage the day-to-day operations of the admissions office, including application processing, review, communication flow, and the integration of technology (e.g., Applicant Portals, Application Processing Systems, CRM, SIS systems). Responsible for development and management of department budget. Oversight for admission data reporting to external parties. Develop and implement a robust assessment plan for admissions operations, evaluating the effectiveness of recruitment strategies, marketing campaigns, and staff performance.
- Team Leadership: Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate admissions staff, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and exceptional customer service. Lead efforts to recruit, train, and retain a highly effective staff to meet the demands of competitive enrollment environment. Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and performance evaluation for Admissions department across three campus locations.
- Policy and Compliance: Ensure all admissions policies and procedures adhere to federal, state, accrediting bodies, and institutional regulations, including ethical recruitment standards and reporting requirements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Enrollment Services to develop and implement effective student-centered packaging and scholarship strategies. Serve as a key liaison to academic deans, department chairs, marketing, and student affairs to align admissions efforts with academic programs and institutional priorities. Serve as a primary liaison with academic colleges and University departments to ensure a seamless student experience from prospect to enrollment. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including college partners, and college access organizations.
- Communication & Outreach: Oversee the development of compelling admissions materials and lead high-level recruitment events, recruitment travel and presentations to prospective students and key stakeholders. Responsible for strategic development of new applicant pipelines/partnerships and ongoing nurturing of partner relationships.
- Event Coordination: Oversee the successful coordination and execution of major on- and off-campus recruitment events, such as open houses (in person and virtual), campus tours, and accepted student visit days.
- Representation and Outreach: Represent the institution on campus-wide committees, professional associations, and in meetings with external constituencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor degree plus post-graduate studies required. Master's degree preferred.
- Significant, progressively responsible experience (10+ years) in a university admissions office or enrollment management office, with a substantial portion of that time spent in a director level role.
- Proven experience in leading, mentoring, and developing a team of admissions professionals, recruiters, and administrative staff.
- Direct experience in managing departmental budgets, allocating resources efficiently, and achieving goals within financial constraints.
- Experience in developing and implementing admissions policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations (e.g., FERPA, Title IV).
- Direct experience in the development, execution, and evaluation of multi-year Strategic Enrollment Plans that align with the institution's mission, academic programs, and financial goals.
- Expertise in using data analytics, predictive modeling, and market research to forecast enrollment, identify recruitment gaps, and measure the effectiveness of various initiatives.
- Proven track record in designing and implementing innovative and effective recruitment strategies to attract and yield diverse and academically talented students.
- Experience collaborating with financial aid to develop and implement strategic scholarship and net tuition revenue models that optimize enrollment while ensuring access and affordability.
- Advanced working knowledge and implementation experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, Student Information Systems and other technologies to streamline the application, communication, and review processes.
- Deep understanding and experience overseeing a comprehensive and equitable application review and selection process, including holistic review models and managing complex exceptions.
- Experience collaborating with or leading marketing teams to develop compelling, multi-channel communications campaigns (digital, print, social media) aimed at prospective students and their influencers.
- Extensive experience working effectively with other key campus stakeholders, including Academic Deans, Student Affairs, Communications & Marketing, Finance, Sponsored Programs, and other departmental stakeholders.
- Experience serving as a key spokesperson and representative for the institution to external groups, including prospective students, parents, high school counselors, alumni, and governing bodies.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Strong technical aptitude, written and oral communication/presentation skills, recruitment & admissions in higher education.
- Knowledge setting & achieving recruitment goals,
- Knowledge of graduate and professional health professions/programs, staff/office management/project planning/staff training and development, publication design/review/marketing, event planning & execution, budget management
- Public and Crisis Communication skills.
- Must possess strong interpersonal tact to navigate complex relationships with deans, and senior administrators who often have competing interests or demands regarding student quality and enrollment numbers.
- The capacity to address complex, high-stakes problems (e.g., enrollment shortfalls, policy disputes, and operational bottlenecks) with reasoned, data-informed, and creative solutions.
- The ability to provide inspirational, ethical, and decisive leadership to the admissions team, setting a clear vision that aligns the daily operations with the institution's strategic goals.
- Foster a culture of professional development, data-informed decision-making, and exceptional customer service within the division.
- A proven ability to build consensus and forge strong working partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including academic deans, Financial Aid, Communications & Marketing, and Student Affairs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead efforts that ensure equitable and inclusive admissions practices, promoting a student body that reflects a commitment to underserved populations.
