Description

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage quality control staff including scheduling, payroll, hiring, training, and safety performance.
  • Responsible for verifying established product strength properties of in-process materials and finished products through quality control testing.
  • Ensure testing procedures adhere to established industry standards and mill QC Manual in terms of setup, sample size, and frequency.
  • Assist maintenance and vendors in troubleshooting of critical process QC equipment (veneer graders, thickness detectors, and blow detectors)
  • Provide instruction to employees regarding task performance, procedure implementation, and/ or special projects.
  • Gain knowledge of mill equipment, production policies, procedures, and techniques that affect product quality variables.
  • Communicate effectively with associates at all levels in the organization (verbal and written).
  • Interface with customers regarding mill tours, product quality issues, and site visits.
  • Coordinate mill activities with respect to product development and quality initiatives.
  • Evaluate incoming and in-process raw materials (veneer, OSB, adhesives, sealer) per mill specifications and appropriately address non-conformities.
  • Interact directly with 3rd party audit agency, maintaining compliance to mill QC Manual and agency non-conformance policy.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, instrument calibration, test data files, and document control.
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: College, vocational, specialized training/certification or equivalent experience. Requires strong math skills, excellent communication skills, and strong working knowledge of wood products manufacturing and distribution. Self-motivation, accountability, attention to details related to raw material evaluation, process monitoring, product testing, data collection, data entry, and report preparation are required.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Wood Science and 2+ years' experience in Quality Control related to the Engineered Wood Products industry.
