Our team of sales, operations, manufacturing, and professional Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Structural Engineers has contributed to some of the largest and most complex projects in the U.S. and internationally—including hospitals, convention centers, sports venues, data centers, office buildings, manufacturing facilities, and schools.

PURPOSE / SUMMARY

As a Design Lead, you will play a critical leadership role in the success of our Capital Projects by overseeing the preconstruction design process, ensuring the quality and timely delivery of engineering packages, and serving as the primary engineering point of contact for large-scale, complex projects. This role is designed to fully leverage your technical expertise and leadership ability while offering long-term career growth as ISAT Total Support continues to expand.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and direct the Engineering team in support of Capital Projects
• Serve as the primary engineering point of contact for project-related matters
• Understand project scope, schedules, and deliverables; provide engineering durations and input to Project Managers
• Prioritize engineering tasks to meet project schedules and customer expectations
• Ensure quality control of all engineering deliverables
• Attend project kickoff meetings and weekly internal coordination meetings
• Collaborate with Project Managers on manpower forecasting
• Escalate engineering and project-related issues as needed
• Develop expertise in applicable building codes and standards (IBC/ASCE 7, CBC, AISC, ACI, NDS, etc.)
• Utilize and support engineering software tools such as RISA-3D, STAAD Pro, AutoCAD, EnerCALC, and Mathcad
• Train and mentor engineers; provide hands-on technical guidance
• Drive process improvements and support adoption of new engineering tools and methods
• Maintain in-depth product and system knowledge to support innovative design solutions
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Typical Daily Responsibilities Include:

  • Building Codes and Programs: Develop thorough knowledge of the pertinent sections of the building codes, including IBC/ASCE 7, CBC, ASME B31, AISC Specifications, ACI 318, NDS, ACI 530, and UFC. Additionally, become proficient in software tools like RISA-3D, STAAD Pro, AUTOCAD, EnerCALC, and Mathcad. Utilize this knowledge to help technical staff with any in-depth issues and pitfalls
  • Training – Assists with the training of new engineers; has a working knowledge of all training documents and how to proscribe them to new employees; provides hands-on teaching and guidance to reinforce their training and growth
  • Process Development & Improvement – Work with the other Structural engineers and other senior engineers to come up with the best ways to complete all tasks quickly and correctly; must be aware of new developments in engineering principles, and new software and tools to help better meet their goals
  • Product Knowledge – Must have an in-depth knowledge of what products/parts could be utilized on projects and be able to apply the line of supported products; must be able to create and catalog new applications of support systems and help create better solutions for the future
  • Perform Other Duties as Assigned – The employee might be asked to perform duties not listed in this job description, but which are also considered to be essential to the employment position.
QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural, Civil, or related Engineering discipline required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in construction or structural design environments.
• Proven leadership experience managing and mentoring engineering teams.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. building codes and industry standards.
• Advanced experience with engineering and design software.
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating cross-functionally.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
• Must be able to operate standard office equipment and computers continuously.
• Must occasionally move throughout office/warehouse environments and job sites.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs occasionally.
• Must have the ability to communicate clearly and exchange accurate information.
• Must be able to visually inspect and assess details at close range.
• Must tolerate typical office and warehouse noise levels and occasional outdoor site conditions.
