Position Overview

The Manufacturing Engineering Intern supports the Engineering and Manufacturing teams by assisting with process improvements, data analysis, and day-to-day operational support within a manufacturing environment. This role provides hands-on experience in engineering principles, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The intern will collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, quality, and supply chain to support operational efficiency, improve product flow, and contribute to ongoing engineering projects. This position is ideal for individuals seeking practical experience in industrial or manufacturing engineering.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide support and basic troubleshooting assistance for current manufacturing operations.
  • Investigate, gather, and analyze data for assigned recurring and project-based tasks.
  • Assist in the implementation of new manufacturing processes, equipment, and technology.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives, including waste reduction, 5S, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing layouts to enhance material flow and workstation efficiency.
  • Assist in establishing routings, methods, labor standards, and process documentation for new and existing products.
  • Support development of work instructions, quality plans, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Identify and support implementation of cost reduction, quality improvement, safety, and ergonomic initiatives.
  • Work with engineering and production teams to resolve process issues and improve product quality.
  • Assist with tooling, fixture design, and process optimization projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Currently enrolled in an Engineering program (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field).
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts (5S, Kaizen, continuous improvement).
  • Experience with data analysis or process improvement projects.
