About This Position
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist supports Polytek® Development Corp.’s commitment to providing a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace. This role is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving EHS program`s to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations while fostering a strong safety culture across all U.S. locations.
Polytek® Development Corp. is a leading manufacturer of mold making and casting materials and is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and organized professional to join our growing team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of current and proposed Environmental, Health & Safety regulations and standards, including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, DOT, IATA, and IMDG, and ensure organizational compliance.
- Support the development, implementation, and communication of Corporate EHS Policies and Programs across U.S. locations.
- Conduct new-hire EHS onboarding and coordinate recurring annual safety training.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by ensuring employees understand and comply with safety expectations and best practices.
- Participate in and contribute to monthly safety committee meetings.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, injuries, and unsafe conditions; perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Administer and communicate Workers’ Compensation claims, including coordination of post-incident investigations and documentation.
- Maintain accurate records for OSHA logs, EHS checklists, training, and regulatory submissions.
- Develop, track, and report EHS Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate program effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
- Report EHS-related performance data to the department, including audit results, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify potential hazards, manage hazardous waste, and evaluate machinery for safety compliance.
- Manage and maintain safety equipment, cabinets, and supplies, coordinate ordering and inventory control.
- Support internal audits, inspections, and regulatory visits as needed.
- Travel up to 20%
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support EHS and organizational needs.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit for extended periods and work at a computer in an office environment.
- Ability to perform essential physical functions, including standing, crouching, and climbing ladders for extended periods on the production floor.
- Frequent verbal communication and visual acuity including close, distance, color, and peripheral vision.
- Ability to hear, speak, and communicate effectively.
- Required use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in manufacturing or operational areas.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or a related field preferred.
- 1–5 years of relevant EHS experience preferred.
- Experience in manufacturing or chemical environments a plus.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong working knowledge of EHS regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
