Accountable for the vision and management of the home equity line of credit (HELOC) consumer loan underwriting and processing team. This position will assist in the development and strategic direction in a rapidly changing organization. Implements process enhancements to increase the efficiency of departmental operations. Maintains and effectively leverages a thorough understanding of the consumer lending industry and trends to ensure the optimal performance, productivity and effectiveness of the department. Ensures that internal and external members receive efficient, courteous and quality service. Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages direct reports to maximize productivity, ensure efficient operations, appropriate controls, effectiveness, efficiency, and the potential of the human assets of the company, including; monitoring team performance, coaching, mentoring, training, assuring compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational mission, values, policies and work guidelines. Appraise performance and provide recommendations for promotion, disciplinary action and termination, as appropriate. Communicates, coordinates, coaches and reviews direct reports to ensure efficient operations, appropriate controls and appropriate levels of productivity and effectiveness.
- Monitors and evaluates HELOC underwriting decisions to ensure lending decisions maintain a quality loan portfolio that drives profitability while managing appropriate levels of credit risk.
- Manages and directs the loan processing of HELOC loans, including gathering supporting loan documents, clearing conditions for loan closing, preparing loan closing documentation, validating funding documentation, and loan disbursement.
- Leads the daily operations of HELOC underwriting and processing to include productivity control, procedure interpretation, testing and review of procedures.
- Initiates projects and manages implementations that result in expense reductions and/or improved service and support.
- Partners with the Retail and the Member Contact Center (MCC) to manage HELOC product, process, procedures and the ongoing evaluation of market trends, competitor programs, and internal stakeholder needs.
- Manages vendor relations required to support various services for HELOC loans (e.g. underwriting, flood, appraisal, title, etc.).
- Creates and maintains a culture of compliance and manages risk appropriately including but not limited to considerations related to Fair Lending, HMDA, RESPA, and CFPB.
- Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Additionally, all employees must follow policies and procedures to minimize risk by exercising judgment, raising questions to management, and adhering to policy guidelines.
Experience
Five years to eight years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience, including Home Equity Line of Credit and Consumer loan documentation experience.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
A college degree.
Interpersonal Skills
A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.
Other Skills
- Knowledge of State and Federal regulations affecting HELOC consumer loans.
- Knowledge of consumer loan policies, procedures, products, and services.
Physical Requirements
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
