Lifeguard - Summer Seasonal

The JCC of Central New Jersey is a non-profit agency whose mission is to educate, enrich and empower our community – from generation to generation. The JCC offers educational, recreational, fitness & wellness, cultural and communal programs and activities to people of all abilities and all stages of life.

Summary of Position:

The JCC is looking for people who love the water and understand the importance of pool safety to serve as a certified Lifeguard in our Aquatics department. This is a seasonal, overtime non-exempt position reporting to the Aquatics director. Seasonal hours: Monday - Friday, 9:30am - 3:30pm

Key Responsibilities:

· Maintain the health and safety of all participants through:

Continually and properly surveilling all areas of responsibility(indoor pool, outdoor pools, and deck area)

Using effective Preventive Lifeguarding as an integral part ofthis surveillance

Educating swimmers of pool rules; enforcing and personallypracticing all pool rules and regulations

· Perform appropriate rescues, including administering first aid/CPR as needed

· Follow JCC guidelines for opening and closing pools

· Present oneself in an appropriate and professional manner at all times, including swimsuit, whistle, JCC Lifeguard t-shirt, rescue tube, and shorts

· Represent and promote the JCC in a positive manner at all times

· Test the water in the pool at least once every two hours

· Perform routine maintenance tasks as needed, such as cleaning bleachers, sweeping the deck and the pool, and other tasks needed to maintain a clean and healthy atmosphere

· Complete all required records and reports, such as accident reports, and chemistry and user logs as needed

· Attend and participate in pre-season trainings

· Correct and immediately report any unsafe conditions or hazards in the pool areas

· Other relevant duties as assigned

Qualification

· Valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding with Professional Rescue CPR/ / AED certification

Physical Requirements:

· Work with pool chemicals as needed

· Complete 300-yard swim

· Spend prolonged amount of time in swimming pool

· Must be able to lift 40 pounds

Compensation: Pay starts at $16/hour and may vary based on experience
