Our Shop team ensures that field crews have safe, functional, and reliable equipment. You’ll play a critical role in supporting field crews by keeping our fleet operational, reliable, and ready to perform. You’ll work independently and as part of a small team, both in-shop and on-call (during your shift) to handle field repairs.
The Opportunity
We are hiring a temporary full-time Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Service Technician at our Otsego, MN location for January-March 2026 with the possibility of an extension or permanent hire depending upon performance. This position will perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a wide variety of vehicles and machinery used in ecological restoration. From dozers and excavators to UTVs and chainsaws, your work will ensure our teams stay safe and productive in the field.
This is a hands-on role that requires mechanical expertise, a strong customer service mindset, and the ability to troubleshoot and repair both in the shop and on the jobsite. You’ll work independently and collaboratively servicing equipment, supporting inventory and documentation, and helping field staff get the job done.
What You Will Do
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues across a wide range of equipment including excavators, tractors, skid loaders, dozers, trucks, UTVs, trailers, chainsaws, pumps, and more.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on small engines, heavy equipment, and ecological restoration tools.
- Respond to urgent repair needs in the field to minimize downtime and support project continuity.
- Maintain clean, safe work areas and follow all safety procedures and best practices.
- Support inventory tracking of parts and materials; help monitor usage and restocking needs.
- Maintain accurate daily logs and repair records in accordance with company documentation standards.
- Test equipment and vehicles after repairs to ensure reliability and performance.
- Assist other technicians with troubleshooting as needed and contribute to team knowledge-sharing.
What You Will Need To Be Successful
- 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment, agricultural, or auto repair.
- Certified mechanic or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs and perform physical labor as part of repairs.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills—including ability to use power tools, hand tools, and diagnostic software.
- Class A CDL preferred and must have an insurable driving record.
- Ability to prioritize safety and follow proper procedures, both in-shop and in the field.
- Willingness to share knowledge and collaborate with other technicians.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and reliability.
