Role Overview

The Maintenance Manager is primarily responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe daily operation of the Market, including front-of-house, back-of-house, and all Vendor Kitchens and Kiosks. This role focuses on general maintenance and repairs, preventative maintenance (PM) scheduling and execution, vendor contracting, and maintaining all MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) and public appearance areas in good repair.
Key Objectives
Maintenance Operations: Direct and manage the engineering and maintenance operations of the Market, including planning and undertaking scheduled maintenance tasks.Preventative Maintenance: Prepare and execute comprehensive preventative maintenance schedules to maximize equipment uptime and market appearance. Ensure PM programs are aligned with budget and continuously find ways to improve reliability of equipment, maintenance costs, market performance, equipment lifecycle.Repairs & Troubleshooting: Perform and/or monitor repairs on all MEP and public appearance areas; respond promptly to all engineering, maintenance, and building-related safety concerns and breakdowns.Vendor Equipment & Kitchen Maintenance: Directly manage and perform maintenance and repairs on Vendor Kitchens and Kiosks, including specialized equipment unique to a food service environment (e.g., commercial refrigeration, exhaust fans, grease traps, fryers, steam tables).Urgent Food Hall Repairs: Quickly resolve outstanding repairs in high-traffic and food-sensitive areas (like floor drains, plumbing in washrooms, and lighting in dining areas) to minimize disruption to vendor operations and guest experience.Supervision & Support: Supervise all additional maintenance associates and support Market Management in specifying proper supplies and equipment for stocking.Compliance & Systems: Manage the Market’s CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), executing daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checklists. Partner with Market Operations Management to ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation and food safety standards related to facility maintenance.Vendor & Stakeholder Liaison: Contract with external suppliers and vendors to perform necessary tasks. Act as a key liaison with the Oakridge Park Building Operations Team, specifically for shared services such as garbage, recycling, oil, and HVAC (critical for kitchen ventilation and temperature control).Trade Skills: Maintain the Market front-of-house and back-of-house areas in good repair by performing various tasks related to a variety of trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, and tiling to ensure an attractive and well-maintained Market.
Skills & Attributes
Technical Skills & Experience
A strong background in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry.At least 2 years’ experience in a similar capacity.Experience and a general understanding of miscellaneous maintenance and repair (M&R) processes, including painting, drywall, etc.Possess basic knowledgeable hand/power tool operation.Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, Building Automation System (BAS), and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Education & Certifications
High School Diploma or equivalentPrefer, but not required, candidates with a post-secondary education in relevant fields, such as:Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical EngineeringFacilities ManagementBusiness AdministrationHospitality or Food Service ManagementTechnical Training/Trade Certifications: A background as a certified tradesperson, such as an industrial millwright or electrician, combined with supervisory experience, is a strong alternative to a degree, especially in the food processing industry.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
Physical Demands: Must be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours). Must be able to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy.Work Environment: Requires working a variety of varying schedules, including nights and weekends.Emergency Response: Must be available to respond to emergencies when not physically at the site.
