About This Position

Executive Director

Under the direction of the Oconee DSN Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives. Ensures the continued success of the program delivery system by using research and planning of service needs; identifying and negotiating funding of programs and activities and the execution of programs’ objectives through the supervision of subordinate staff.

In program development and administration, the Executive Director will:

1. Ensure that the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes timely progress.
2. Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the board.
3. Promote active and broad participation by volunteers and community partners in all areas of the organization’s work.
4. Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
5. Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field.

In communications, the Executive Director will:
1. See that the board is kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and all-important factors influencing it.
2. Publicize the activities of the organization, its programs, and goals.
3. Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.
4. Represent the programs and point of view of the organizations to agencies, organizations, and the general public.

In relations with staff, the Executive Director will:
1. Be responsible for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers.
2. See that an effective management team, with appropriate provision for succession, is in place.
3. Encourage staff and volunteer development and education, and assist program staff in relating their specialized work to the total program of the organization.
4. Maintain a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top-quality people.

In budget and finance, the Executive Director will:
1. Responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices.
2. Work with the staff, Finance Committee, and the board in preparing a budget and ensure that the organization operates within budget guidelines.
3. Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out it work.
4. Jointly, with the chairperson and secretary of the board of directors, conduct official correspondence of the organization, and jointly, with designated officers, execute legal documents.

Qualifications: BA/BS degree from an accredited college. At least 2 years’ administration and/or supervisory experience in the Human Services field. Valid driver’s license. Satisfactory criminal background check. Satisfactory driving record. Satisfactory record with the South Carolina Department of Social Services Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry. If resident of South Carolina for less than 1 year, an FBI fingerprint record.

Hours of Work: Generally, works Monday thru Friday from 8a until 4p. Works evenings, nights or weekends as needed or directed.

Specific Skills or Attributes: Ability to work with a diverse work force and client base. Excellent oral and written skills. Self-motivated and self- starter. Ability to work independently or in groups.

Physical Abilities Required: Including but not limited to lifting, pushing, pulling, standing, climbing, balancing, crawling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, smelling, communication, writing, reading, driving, (including at night), counting, and running. Physical requirements include very heavy work or lifting with assistance. Visual activity must be accurate enough to write and read small print and to record data. Employee is subject to both indoor and outdoor environments and may be subject to extremes of heat or cold for short periods of time. Employee is subject to noise and hazards including but not limited to the possibilities of physical assault, property destruction and infections. Employee is also subject to wear protective clothing to prevent infections.
