Description:

Since 1974, Wittenbach has been a leading provider of innovative cash automation and security solutions for financial institutions. Our commitment to customer satisfaction and delivering results has driven our growth. With over 200 highly trained service professionals throughout our service area, we ensure rapid response to our customer’s service needs. The corporate office is in Sparks, Maryland along with regional operations in Hunt Valley, MD, Coatesville, PA and Charlotte, NC. Our Sales and Service footprint spans the Mid-West and East Coast.

The Director of Subcontractors provides strategic leadership and end-to-end oversight for all external partner engagements. This role is responsible for the entire subcontracting lifecycle—from vetting and price negotiation to project delivery and performance auditing. This is a remote position that could be located anywhere within our customer footprint.

The primary focus of this position is managing partners who provide Field Service Support (Maintenance & Break-Fix) and, most critically, IST (Installation & Integration) services. You will ensure all partners align with Wittenbach Business Systems (WBS) quality standards, budgetary goals, and delivery timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Lifecycle Management: Lead the vetting, onboarding, and contract negotiation for all subcontractors, ensuring competitive pricing and robust service level agreements (SLAs).
  • IST & Service Delivery: Oversee the execution of Installation and Integration (IST) work—the core focus of this role—alongside ongoing field maintenance and break-fix services.
  • Operational Integration: Seamlessly integrate subcontractor teams into WBS internal workflows, including communication protocols, dispatch systems, and monitoring tools.
  • Accountability & Governance: Define clear roles, responsibilities, and assignments for external partners; conduct regular performance audits to ensure compliance and high-quality outcomes.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Provide management oversight to ensure external labor meets the demands of both the Service and Sales departments, maintaining a unified standard of excellence.
Requirements:

Subcontractor Selection:

  • Identify and evaluate potential subcontractors based on their qualifications, experience, and financial stability.
  • Negotiate favorable terms and conditions for subcontracting agreements.
  • Conduct due diligence to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with company standards.

Contract Management:

  • Review and manage subcontracting agreements to ensure they align with project or service requirements and company policies.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance against contractual obligations and address any discrepancies or issues.
  • Manage change orders, claims, and disputes related to subcontracting agreements.

Performance & Operational Oversight:

  • KPI Framework & Metrics: Establish and refine Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to rigorously track subcontractor progress, service quality, and contract compliance.
  • Field Audits & Quality Assurance: Conduct strategic site visits and inspections to assess workmanship firsthand, identifying performance gaps and implementing corrective action plans.
  • Service Level Management: Monitor and drive critical service metrics, including On-Time PM (Preventative Maintenance) performance, Aging Call resolution, and first-time fix rates.
  • Continuous Improvement: Provide high-level feedback and technical support to partners, ensuring all subcontracted work aligns with project objectives and WBS brand standards.
  • Escalation & Governance: Define clear oversight protocols and designate Points of Contact (POCs) for technical and operational escalations to ensure rapid issue resolution.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and assess potential risks associated with subcontracting activities.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize negative impacts.
  • Manage insurance requirements and claims related to subcontractor activities.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure subcontractors adhere to all safety regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct safety inspections and training programs for subcontractors.
  • Monitor compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards.

Financial Management:

  • Manage subcontractor payments and invoices to ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Monitor subcontractor financial health to assess their ability to fulfill contractual obligations.

Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with subcontractors and their representatives.
  • Resolve disputes and conflicts in a professional and timely manner.
  • Identify high performing subcontractors as potential targets for corporate acquisition.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Stakeholder Synergy: Maintain proactive, open communication with subcontractors, project managers, and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution and alignment on deliverables.
  • Operational Oversight: Drive daily field service operations with a focus on consistent quality control and high-efficiency project delivery.
  • Structured Accountability: Establish and enforce clear communication protocols, escalation paths, and accountability standards within the field management structure and the Subcontractor Department.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Act as the primary liaison between field teams and management to resolve bottlenecks and ensure adherence to company performance standards.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in subcontracting management or a similar role.
  • Leadership Depth: At least 5–7 years in a senior management role (e.g., Senior Project Manager, Regional Operations Manager, or Head of Procurement).
  • Subcontractor Lifecycle: Proven track record of managing high-value subcontracts from "Request for Proposal" (RFP) through to "Close-out."

Physical Functions:
