CNC Programmer – Sheet Metal Fabrication
Location: Newport News, VA
Shift: 1st Shift
Schedule: Monday – Friday, with overtime opportunities
Job Type: Direct Hire
Pay Rate: Starts at $25.00 + (depending on experience)
We are seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to support sheet metal fabrication operations in a high-production environment. This role focuses on developing accurate CNC programs, maintaining revision-controlled files, and supporting efficient manufacturing processes through collaboration with engineering and production teams.
The ideal candidate brings strong programming experience, attention to detail, and the ability to translate technical drawings into optimized machine instructions.

- Modern production facility (~60,000 sq. ft.)
- Fast-paced setting producing precision components and complex assemblies
- Team-oriented environment focused on quality and on-time delivery
- Interpret work orders, blueprints, orthographic drawings, and GD&T requirements
- Create, modify, and maintain CNC programs using G-code and CAM software
- Develop flat patterns and layouts for sheet metal fabrication
- Collaborate with engineering to ensure designs are manufacturable and efficient
- Perform reverse engineering when needed to support production requirements
- Select appropriate machines, tooling, and materials for cost-effective output
- Apply knowledge of bend allowances/deductions and fabrication processes
- Prepare detailed work instructions, including setup sheets and assembly guidance
- Partner with quality teams to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 standards and customer specifications
- Minimum of 5 years of CNC programming experience
- Strong proficiency in writing and editing G-code
- Experience with CAM software (SolidWorks, TekSoft, or similar)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Solid math skills, including geometry and trigonometry
- Strong organizational and communication abilities
- Knowledge of tooling and tool management practices
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Background in sheet metal manufacturing
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems
- Experience with process improvement initiatives
- Exposure to inventory or materials management
- Turret punch press systems with automatic tool changers
- Fiber laser cutting equipment (including high-power systems)
- Laser cutting machines
- Combination turret punch/laser systems
