Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
- Perform Professional Outpatient Medical Record Coding.
- Identify significant diagnoses and procedures and determine the principal diagnosis and procedure for each hospitalization accurately 95‑100% of the time to meet standard; 94% or less is below standard as documented by quality assurance activities.
- Assign correct classification codes for identified diagnoses and procedures accurately 95‑100% of the time to meet standard; 94% or less is below standard, as documented by quality assurance activities.
- Sequence all procedures performed according to the established guidelines.
- Code all outpatient medical records as documented on daily activity reports.
Standard: Code all OP records within four days of receipt to your area.
Job Duties:
- Submits claims to accounts as appropriate.
- Submits claims to carriers and intermediaries as appropriate.
- Checks coding to insure accuracy and medical necessity.
- Insures information is appropriate for client or insurance billing.
- Assists in follow-up on payment and billing errors.
- Send medical records requested by insurance companies
- Other duties as assigned by Director associated with clinic specialty.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma/GED
- Training and Experience: Certifications as needed/required
Job Knowledge: Must demonstrate consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other health care professionals. Familiarity with EMR systems a plus.
Essentials:
- Must be able to report to work fit for duty and free of any adverse effects of illegal drugs, medical marijuana, prescription medication, and/or alcohol.
- Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with other individuals.
Physical Demands: The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties. Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills. A significant amount of writing and computer entry is required.
