The Senior Content Strategist will lead the content strategy and governance of a large-scale public data platform supporting a federal health agency.
The platform brings together more than 170 public data products, including datasets, interactive tools, and dashboards, serving hundreds of thousands of users every month.
In this senior and autonomous role, you will define editorial standards, develop content guidelines, and oversee taxonomy and information architecture.
You will also lead content migration initiatives to consolidate fragmented government data websites into a unified, accessible destination.
Working closely with government stakeholders, data owners, designers, researchers, and developers, you will make complex information easier to discover and understand.
This position offers the opportunity to improve public access to essential health data while ensuring compliance with federal accessibility, security, and governance standards.

Accountabilities

You will own the platform's content strategy and editorial governance, ensuring that information is consistent, accessible, and aligned with user needs and program objectives. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and maintain the platform's content strategy in alignment with program objectives, quarterly OKRs, and the product roadmap.

  • Establish and manage content guidelines, editorial standards, style guides, and workflows to ensure consistency across multiple contributing agency offices.

  • Lead content and data governance initiatives, including standardized documentation, guided authoring processes, and role-based publishing workflows within Drupal.

  • Maintain and continuously improve the platform's information architecture, taxonomy, metadata, and naming conventions to enhance content organization and discoverability.

  • Collaborate with developers and web analytics specialists to improve search relevance and content findability using tools such as Adobe Analytics and Google Search Console.

  • Apply open data metadata standards, including DCAT-US, to dataset pages and supporting documentation.

  • Plan and lead content migration initiatives, including content inventories, audits, mapping, and redirect strategies for consolidating existing agency data websites.

  • Define the content strategy, taxonomy, and information architecture components of broader website consolidation initiatives and guide their implementation.

  • Ensure that every new data product page includes comprehensive supporting documentation, such as plain-language descriptions, methodology documents, and data dictionaries.

  • Coach agency data owners on content standards and review their submissions before publication, supporting at least 10 new data product releases annually.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of help desk FAQs, user guides, release notes, and other user-facing communications.

  • Analyze user research findings, help desk trends, and website analytics to identify content gaps and translate insights into actionable user stories with clear acceptance criteria.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, Program Increment planning, product demonstrations, and retrospectives.

  • Maintain up-to-date content standards and documentation in Confluence.

  • Ensure all content complies with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements, maintaining appropriate human oversight of AI-assisted content.

  • Perform additional relevant responsibilities aligned with the role and professional qualifications.
