Position Summary:
The Special Education Bus Assistant assists bus drivers in providing safe and efficienttransportation for special education students to and from school. The Bus Assistant rides in thestudent area of the bus, supports students during loading, transit, and unloading, and helpsensure that each student is properly secured and released to an authorized individual.

Key Functions:
Assists with loading, securing, and unloading students, including students who usewheelchairs or other special equipment
Rides in the student area of the bus so that all students remain visible and accessible
Helps maintain order and appropriate conduct among passengers
Assists the driver with route support, bus checks, cleaning, and emergency evacuation
Reports student conduct, safety, and welfare concerns to the driver and TransportationOffice

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience:
No prior experience required

Licenses and Certifications:
MANDT certification required
First Aid certification required
CPR certification required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work collaboratively with others on a team
Ability to assess a situation quickly and respond calmly, efficiently, and patiently understressful conditions
Ability to maintain a professional appearance and a calm, respectful manner wheninteracting with students, parents, and school personnel
Ability to apply safety principles to protect the health and safety of self, students,parents, and school personnel
Bilingual in Spanish preferred
