Job Description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Data Engineer in Canada.
This role sits at the core of a high-scale data platform powering cybersecurity intelligence for millions of companies worldwide. You will design and own large-scale data systems that process massive volumes of information with a strong focus on reliability, performance, and data integrity. Operating in a highly technical, Scala- and Spark-first environment, you will take end-to-end ownership of critical pipelines that directly impact product accuracy and customer trust. This is a senior individual contributor position with significant technical leadership scope, where your architectural decisions shape the direction of the platform. You will collaborate closely with engineers, product teams, and stakeholders across geographies in a fast-paced, engineering-driven culture. The environment values autonomy, deep technical thinking, and high ownership, with opportunities to influence both systems and team practices at scale.
In this role, you will take ownership of complex data engineering systems and act as a technical anchor for the team, ensuring high standards of engineering quality, scalability, and reliability across all data pipelines and infrastructure.
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of large-scale data pipelines and distributed systems
- Own end-to-end architecture and delivery of data engineering solutions across infrastructure, application, and data layers
- Define technical approaches for complex initiatives, including effort estimation and problem breakdown
- Drive system reliability, performance optimization, and scalability improvements across high-volume data environments
- Collaborate with Product Managers and cross-functional stakeholders to translate business needs into robust technical solutions
- Conduct advanced code reviews, setting engineering standards and improving team-wide technical quality
- Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers through feedback, design guidance, and knowledge sharing
- Contribute to engineering best practices, including documentation, testing strategies, and system observability
This position is suited to an experienced data engineering professional with deep technical expertise in distributed systems and a strong ability to lead through technical influence. You are comfortable operating in complex environments and making architectural decisions independently.
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, building and maintaining large-scale data pipelines
- Deep expertise in Scala, with Spark as a primary framework for distributed data processing
- Strong experience designing ETL pipelines and production-grade data infrastructure
- Advanced system design and architecture skills, with the ability to evaluate trade-offs and ensure reliability at scale
- Experience working with high-volume, high-throughput systems (TB-scale or equivalent)
- Strong mentoring experience and track record of elevating engineering teams
- Familiarity with distributed systems, data modeling, and performance tuning techniques
- Proficiency with Git and modern software development practices
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Nice to have: experience in cybersecurity data products, diverse data formats, or prior Staff/Principal-level IC roles
- Competitive total compensation (base salary + bonus) in the range of CAD $140,000 – $160,000
- Eligibility for annual performance-based incentives and equity participation
- Opportunity to work on large-scale, high-impact cybersecurity data systems
- Remote-friendly work environment with flexibility across Canada and LATAM regions
- Exposure to modern, scalable data technologies and complex distributed systems
- Strong engineering culture focused on ownership, autonomy, and technical excellence
- Opportunities for career growth into broader technical leadership and staff-level influence
- Inclusive workplace committed to diversity, equity, and professional development
