Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

  • We offer a 7-on, 7-off schedule that consists of one week of 12-hour day shifts followed by one week off, followed by one week of 12-hour night shifts. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Master Fleet Maintenance Technician is the highest level technical role within the fleet maintenance team at Pinto Valley Mine. This position provides advanced diagnostics, repair, and technical leadership across heavy mobile mining equipment, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation.

This role serves as a subject matter expert across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, supporting complex troubleshooting, mentoring team members, and driving maintenance best practices in both shop and field environments.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Advanced Diagnostics & Repair: Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on heavy mining equipment.

Technical Leadership: Serve as the technical escalation point for difficult repairs and provide guidance to maintenance personnel.

Maintenance Execution: Perform and oversee major repairs and component replacements, including engines, hydraulic systems, electric drive systems, transmissions, and final drives.

Troubleshooting & Analysis: Lead troubleshooting efforts on intermittent and repeat failures using schematics, data analysis tools, and OEM resources.

Equipment Expertise: Maintain subject matter expertise on Caterpillar, Komatsu, and Hitachi mining equipment.

Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety procedures including PPE use, hazard assessments, and LOTO requirements.

Continuous Improvement: Conduct root cause analysis and support development of corrective actions to improve equipment reliability.

Systems & Tools: Utilize OEM diagnostic software and tools to support maintenance and system configuration.

Quality Assurance: Ensure all repairs meet OEM and company standards and are completed with a high level of accuracy.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required

• High School Diploma or GED

• Journeyman certification in Heavy Equipment, Diesel Mechanics, or equivalent

• Minimum 8–10 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance in mining or similar heavy industry

• Advanced knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems

• Experience working on Caterpillar, Komatsu, and Hitachi equipment

• Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical documentation

• Experience with diagnostic tools and software

• Basic fabrication and welding skills

• Valid driver’s license

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

Preferred

• Experience with SAP or similar maintenance systems

• Experience with Tier IV engines and emissions systems

• Knowledge of pneumatic and AC systems

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Shop and field-based role in an active mining operation

• Working around heavy mobile equipment and energized systems

• Walking on uneven ground and navigating industrial work areas

• Exposure to dust, noise, heat, and varying weather conditions

• Exposure to hazardous substances and energy sources

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in operational areas

All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required. Capstone maintains a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
