Position Summary:
The Senior Director, Marketing& Communications is the senior communications and marketing leader for theUNM Health Sciences Center. This is an executive-level role responsible fordeveloping and executing integrated marketing and communications strategies acrossall of UNM HSC's mission areas: academic health professions, education, biomedicaland translational research, clinical care, and community health.
Reporting directly to the HSCChief of Staff and working closely with the UNM Chief Marketing and CommunicationsOfficer (CMCO), the Senior Director leads a team of marketing andcommunications professionals and holds primary communications authority acrossthe UNM HSC portfolio. The role functions as the strategic marketing and communicationsadvisor to HSC senior leadership-including the EVP for Health Sciences,Hospital CEO, Dean of the School of Medicine, and other Health Sciencesacademic and clinical leaders.
This position is integral toUNM's One University marketing and communications structure and works in closecoordination with the CMCO to advance institutional alignment, shared brandstandards, and cross-campus collaboration. The Senior Director contributes todivision-level and university-wide brand strategy and ensures that UNM HSC'scommunications and marketing activity reflects both the distinct mission of thehealth enterprise and the broader reputation of the University.

- Bachelor's in communications,marketing, journalism, public health, public administration, or a relatedfield.
- Experience working in anacademic medical center, health system, or academic health sciences environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of themissions, culture, and governance structures of a public research universityand affiliated health system, including the distinct dynamics of academicmedicine. Leadership & Strategy
- Demonstrated record ofdeveloping and leading integrated marketing and communications functions for acomplex, multi-mission institution or enterprise.
- Proven experience as a seniorcommunications advisor to executive leadership, governing boards, orinstitutional senior leaders in high-stakes environments.
- Experience leadingorganizational change, building or restructuring communications teams, and establishingoperational frameworks and standards.
- Track record of effectivebudget stewardship, hiring and talent management, and staff development.Communications &Marketing Expertise
- Comprehensive expertise inbrand strategy, institutional positioning, and message development acrossdiverse internal and external audiences.
- Demonstrated success in mediaand public relations, including experience managing complex or sensitiveinstitutional situations, crisis communications, and legislative or regulatory environments.
- Expertise in digitalcommunications, including web strategy, social media, and content marketingacross patient-facing, research, and academic audiences.
- Experience developingdata-informed marketing strategies, including market research, audienceanalysis, and campaign measurement. Health Care & Regulatory Context
- Familiarity withpatient-facing communications, health literacy principles, and marketingcompliance in a clinical or hospital environment.
- Experience navigating thecommunications and marketing dimensions of HIPAA, clinical regulatory requirements,or other health care compliance frameworks.
- Experience working withpatient and family advisory bodies, community health organizations, orpopulation health initiatives.
Institutional Presence
- Demonstrated ability to representan institution effectively through community engagement, government relationscoordination, and external partnership.
- Experience working in oralongside a complex shared governance environment, including coordination with academicleadership such as Deans, Department Chairs, and faculty governance.
