Night Cleaner at Boston Renaissance Charter School – Hyde Park, Massachusetts

Summary: The Custodian/Night Cleaner is entrusted with the maintenance and function of the school building and grounds, cleaning, dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, washing, buffing and waxing floors dusts and scrubs walls, safety and maintenance of the assigned areas, by providing and arranging equipment and furniture, etc. for meetings, classroom activities and events; minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure; and ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs any and all custodial cleaning duties as may be assigned

Cleans offices, classrooms, halls, and other areas

Sweeps, mops, and waxes floors; vacuums and shampoos carpets and rugs

Empties waste receptacles washes walls, windows, and chalkboards

Washes, scrubs, and disinfects restrooms and shower rooms

Locks or secures doors and windows; opens classrooms for authorized personnel

May order, pick up, and deliver materials, equipment, and supplies used in the work.

Sets up and dismantles chairs and tables for various school events

Replaces light bulbs and other lighting fixtures

Stocks classroom and rest room supplies (e.g. paper towels, toilet paper, soap, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring adequate quantities for daily use

May perform in extensive clean-up projects during summer months

Participate in snow removal by shoveling, salting, or plowing as required

Perform other related tasks as assume other related responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

High School Diploma/equivalent

Ability to follow written and oral instructions

Previous experience in school district maintenance/custodial work or a related field preferred

Ability to regularly lift a minimum of 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds and on occasion be able to lift 50 – 100 pounds

Ability to grasp and maintain control of equipment, pushing, pulling, twisting at the waist, bending, climbing and balancing.

Knowledge of the proper use of all custodial cleaning equipment, including the proper use of chemicals solutions

Ability to work independently and in teams to complete job duties and assignments in a timely manner with limited supervision
