Job Description
Under limited supervision protects the patients and staff by providing service support for medical equipment and medical computer systems by managing the risks of therapeutic, diagnostic, treatment and monitoring medical devices and associated systems. Conducts performance risk assessments, safety inspections and preventative maintenance in accordance with the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies. Participates in the processes designed to manage the acquisition, implementation, maintenance, use, upgrades, and replacement of medical equipment. Utilizes manufacture training, on-the-job training and work related experiences to evaluate medical equipment for preventive maintenance processes, including manufacture and alternate equipment management (AEM) procedures as required by regulatory agencies. Utilizes knowledge of communications (wired and wireless) and network performance when troubleshooting and repairing all Biomedical equipment. Provides emergency on-call as scheduled.
Education: Associates Degree (A.A.) from a two-year college, university, or technical school in electronics engineering technology; or biomedical equipment technology; or Information Technology required. Military biomedical training is also accepted. Education must include a thorough understanding of electronics and electrical theory, computer software, hardware and networking: strong understanding of mathematics, primary algebra: and the ability to read and understand technical manuals and interpret schematic diagrams.
Licensure/Certification: One of the following certifications are preferred: A+ (Computer hardware/software), Network +, and/or other certifications considered. Preferred but not required Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET), Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist (CLES), or Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES). Valid driver’s license if required to drive between sites.
Experience: 4 years of experience in Biomedical/Clinical Engineering at a minimum required. Computer software, hardware and networking beneficial. Prefer experience with Microsoft Office applications. Must have an understanding of operating systems, including Microsoft. Technical expertise in a wide range of medical equipment preferred, including knowledge of equipment operation, general design and troubleshooting. An understanding of computer software, hardware and wired/wireless networking preferred. Must have good verbal, written and graphical communication skills. Must be able to lift/handle 75 lbs. May drive between worksites using hospital owned vehicle or personally owned vehicle. Must be accessible and available 24/7 when on call.
