Position Summary

The Registered Nurse works in conjunction with the team including: APRN, MA, and staff to organize and manage the system of organizing medications, administering medication; coordinating with pharmacy, drawing labs, coordinating with other medical specialties; and provide a range of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services. In addition, the RN oversees coordination of clients’ primary care needs—including referrals, communication with primary care providers, and follow-up recommendations—and works closely with the MA to ensure timely completion of follow-up tasks and continuity of care.

Essential Duties

  • Collaborate with the team Psychiatrist or APRN to manage the medication system, administer medications and medical services, arrange for required lab work, and complete needed documentation for the management of the medication system.
  • Screen and monitor consumers for medical problems/side effects while also educating both consumers and other team members on side effects.
  • Communicate and coordinate services with other medical professionals (e.g., pharmacy employees, medication representatives, other treatment providers)
  • Collaborate with consumers to develop strategies to maximize the taking of medications as prescribed (e.g., behavioral tailoring, development of individual cues and reminders)
  • Participate in daily staff organizational meetings and treatment planning review meetings.
  • Complete documentation and meet minimum service time based on the mental health program requirements.
  • Supervise the Medical Assistant.
  • Provide training and education to staff, clients, and others in health and medication related topics as needed.
  • Ensure clients are current on injections and labs as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Assistant for all medical care/needs of clients.
  • Attend work on a regular and predictable basis.
  • Be willing to take clients to medical appointments as needed.

Secondary Duties:

  • Maintain good professional relationships with appropriate community figures, referral sources, and other professionals.
  • Maintain and enhance professional skills and knowledge through attending conferences/ workshops/courses and reading professional materials that are relevant to job requirements and approved by the Program Manager. Maintain all continuing education requirements in order to maintain the therapist's professional level and status.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with and adherence to Utah laws regarding confidentiality and mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Conduct professional life in accordance with the standards of his/her discipline and the clinical policies and procedures of the agency.
  • Maintain familiarity with issues and trends in the behavioral health field including comorbid mental health issues, advances in psychopharmacology, theory, and evidence-based practices.
  • Performs other functions as necessary or assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Current RN license with experience working in inpatient psychiatric settings preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with a serious mental illness and/or substance use disorder preferred.
  • Demonstrates an ability to use sound judgment within the scope of the position’s responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and adapt to change.
  • Organized, detail oriented, self-starter.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated skills in crisis intervention.
  • Computer literate with familiarity of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality regulations, agency policies and procedures, and interact in a professional manner with a diverse workforce, clients, and the public.
  • Willingness to accept supervision and direction.
  • Become CPR and First Aid Certified.
  • Driving is required: must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current driver’s license, have a good driving record, and be insurable on the agency liability policy.
  • Must be able to pass Utah-DHHS – Office of Licensing background screening and pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to walk up and down stairs.
  • Ability to move around the facility, interacting with clients for extended periods.
  • Work is generally performed in a residential treatment center environment. May entail using a computer for extended periods of time.
