Job Description
About Us and Why We’re Hiring
At Terra Energy, we’re building more than solar projects—we’re building a scalable in-house engineering function that supports faster operations, stronger quality control, and exceptional outcomes for our customers and installation crews.
As we continue expanding across Florida and Texas, we’ve reached a point where engineering review, inspections, and quality assurance can no longer rely solely on external support. We need internal ownership, consistency, and technical leadership.
That’s why we’re creating this role.
This isn’t about stepping into a fully built system—it’s about helping shape one from the ground up. You’ll play a key role in building our in-house engineering capabilities across plan review, inspections, and installation quality assurance.
If you enjoy creating structure, improving processes, and driving technical excellence in residential solar, this role is for you.
The Role
This is a high-impact, cross-functional role within Terra Energy’s Engineering and QA team.
You’ll serve as a core technical leader responsible for reviewing and stamping residential solar permit packages, conducting inspections, and helping improve installation quality standards across the company.
This role requires someone who is both technically strong and operationally practical—comfortable reviewing code compliance, supporting installers, and helping define scalable engineering processes.
What You’ll Be Doing
Plan Review (PPR)
- Review residential solar PV permit packages for structural, electrical, and code compliance.
- Stamp and sign engineered drawings for submittal to Florida AHJs.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, Florida Building Code, ASCE 7, and utility interconnection requirements.
- Coordinate with the design team to resolve corrections and resubmittals.
- Maintain familiarity with permitting requirements across Florida jurisdictions, including SolarAPP+.
Inspections (PPI)
- Conduct real-time inspections via video calls with installation crews.
- Review structured photo documentation packages where permitted.
- Verify proper installation of racking, modules, wiring, disconnects, inverters, and storage systems.
- Issue approvals or document deficiencies clearly and promptly.
- Maintain inspection records and AHJ-required documentation.
Quality Assurance (QA)
- Develop and maintain internal QA checklists aligned with NEC, FBC, and manufacturer requirements.
- Audit completed installations through photo reviews and site visits.
- Identify recurring deficiencies and lead corrective action efforts.
- Collaborate with operations and field leadership to improve installer training and standards.
- Support continuous improvement of permit package templates and design standards.
What We’re Looking For
- Active Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license — Electrical discipline required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience designing or reviewing residential solar PV systems in Florida.
- Strong knowledge of NEC, Florida Building Code, and ASCE 7 wind loading.
- Experience with residential electrical systems, service upgrades, and load calculations.
- Familiarity with Florida permitting and inspection processes across multiple jurisdictions.
- Ability to perform remote video-based and photo-based inspections.
- Experience with solar design platforms such as Aurora or Helioscope.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with installers and AHJ officials.
Preferred Qualifications
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional (PVIP) or PV Technical Sales (PVTS) certification.
- Experience as a Florida-approved private provider for plan review or inspections.
- Experience with SolarEdge, Enphase, or Hoymiles inverter platforms.
- Knowledge of Florida utility interconnection requirements.
- Familiarity with residential energy storage systems.
- Previous experience building or managing an in-house engineering function.
Important to Know
- This role supports residential solar operations across Florida and Texas.
- The position combines plan review, inspections, and quality assurance responsibilities.
- You’ll help shape and improve the company’s internal engineering standards and processes.
- This is a growing function, so adaptability and initiative are important.
How You’ll Work at Terra Energy
We’re a fast-growing company, and not everything is fully built yet—that’s where the opportunity is.
You’ll have direct exposure to leadership, real ownership over your work, and the chance to shape how engineering and QA evolve as we scale.
We value people who are proactive, detail-oriented, pragmatic, and focused on continuous improvement.
