Job Description
Metro Engineering Solutions LLC (MES) is seeking a Transmission Line Engineer to join our team. MES is a leading utility and telecommunications engineering firm serving clients throughout the Midwest.
This role is responsible for engineering and managing transmission and sub-transmission line projects from initial scoping through project closeout. The Transmission Line Engineer will serve as the owner’s engineer, working directly with utility clients to deliver high-quality, compliant engineering and design solutions. This position includes design, project management, and client-facing responsibilities, ensuring projects meet applicable standards and are delivered on time and within scope.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transmission Line Project Management:
Scope projects using MES internal and client tools.
Coordinate with stakeholders across the project lifecycle, including right of way, environmental, siting, station engineering, joint use (telecom), distribution, and construction.
Manage scope, schedule, and overall project execution. - Transmission Line Design:
Design transmission and sub-transmission lines using PLS-CADD.
Develop load sheets and associated drawings for custom steel poles.
Perform foundation design using MFAD.
Develop material lists for transmission and sub-transmission projects. - Documentation and Standards:
Prepare complete Issue for Construction (IFC) work packages.
Support development and improvement of client’s engineering standards.
Perform quality reviews on engineering deliverables. - Collaboration and Client Support:
Coordinate directly with clients and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Maintain strong client relationships and support business objectives.
Provide input on contracting strategies, delivery models, and technical solutions.
Support RFP development, including technical specifications and design documentation. - Cost and Project Controls:
Identify cost savings through schedule control, scope management, and change management.
Support budget tracking and overall project controls. - Team Leadership:
Mentor and support less experienced engineers and designers. - Construction Support:
Travel to project sites within Michigan as required.
Support construction activities, RFIs, and field coordination.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and design documentation
- Primarily office-based work environment
- Hybrid work environment (combination of in-office and remote work)
- Ability to travel and/or work in the field as needed

Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering
- EIT preferred
- PE license is a strong plus and may qualify for higher compensation
- 4-10 years of experience with transmission and sub-transmission line engineering (required)
- Experience leading projects and coordinating cross-functional teams
- Client-facing experience with strong communication skills
- Project management experience
- Proficiency in PLS-CADD (required)
- Experience with MFAD (preferred)
- Understanding of applicable standards, including NESC, ASCE, and ACI (required)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with internal teams and clients
