Transportation Manager in San Antonio, Texas at VP Racing Fuels Inc

Fueling Success in this Role:

VP Racing is hiring a full-time Transportation Manager to lead and optimize transportation across our internal fleet, over-the-road carriers, and rail network. You’ll partner with Operations, Fleet Safety, Regional Managers, IT, and Accounting to drive efficient, compliant, and cost-effective freight execution. This role will be based at our San Antonio, Texas Corporate Headquarters location (10205 Oasis Drive San Antonio, TX 78216).

Reporting directly to the CFO, this role takes a data-driven approach to transportation strategy, carrier negotiations, modal optimization, and systems implementation. You’ll lead or support the rollout of a freight execution system integrated with NetSuite, while delivering analytical insights that shape operational and financial decisions.

• Manage day-to-day transportation execution across the internal fleet, common carriers, and rail network
• Develop and execute transportation strategies that balance cost, service, capacity, and risk
• Evaluate and optimize the mix of company-owned fleet versus third-party carriers
• Source, qualify, and manage relationships with motor carriers, brokers, Class I railroads, short lines, and transload providers
• Negotiate freight rates, accessorial charges, service levels, and insurance requirements
• Direct rail movements end-to-end, including railcar ordering, placement, release, dwell management, and billing
• Mitigate rail demurrage, storage, and accessorial exposure through proactive coordination and data analysis
• Partner with Fleet Safety to keep transportation operations aligned with regulatory and insurance requirements
• Lead or support the implementation of a freight execution or transportation management system integrated with NetSuite
• Collaborate with IT and Accounting to ensure accurate freight costing, accruals, reporting, and system controls
• Analyze transportation data to surface cost-reduction opportunities and service improvements
• Build and maintain transportation KPIs and dashboards for Operations and executive leadership
• Lead variance analysis on freight and transportation spend

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must be extremely organized and able to manage the logistics of multiple duties with professionalism and strong communication skills. In addition, strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment is critical for success in the role, as are high levels of accuracy, timeliness and dependability. We are looking for someone who can establish and maintain effective working relationships within the organization, work effectively with all levels of employees and management, and assist in providing solutions to challenges that arise. If this describes you and you meet the following requirements, we would be happy to speak with you:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Finance, or a related field, along with at least five (5) years of transportation or logistics management experience AND/OR any combination of education and experience that results in the applicable skills, knowledge, and abilities.
• Hands-on experience with truck transportation and carrier management.
• Experience working with or managing rail transportation, rail-served facilities, or intermodal movements.
• ERP or TMS experience; NetSuite experience preferred.
• Experience negotiating freight rates and managing carrier relationships.
