Faculty.Professor.Assistant - Full-Time at University of Pittsburgh – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

We invite applications for a Full-Time Assistant Professor in the Tenure Stream in the School of Medicine in the Department of Computational and Systems Biology (CSB) at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Medicine.

We are seeking creative, productive, and collaborative colleagues to lead a research team using experimental or computational systems biology approaches to address fundamental biomedical questions and, where appropriate, facilitate translation towards clinical application.

The successful candidate will have a minimum education level of Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Systems Biology, Computational Biology or in a related field and have completed a productive postdoctoral fellowship having published impactful work relevant for the fields of experimental or computational systems biology. One to three years of work experience preferred (inclusive of postdoctoral work) and demonstrated leadership in high-impact research, with interdisciplinary collaborations and multidisciplinary research accomplishments in one or more of the following areas:

-Biological Systems Modeling. Developing experimental and/or computational models of molecular, cellular, or organismal physiological systems using mathematical frameworks to fit data and generalize, while offering biological insights and guiding future research.

-Systems Genetics. Blend large-scale experimental and computational approaches to map the connections between genetic changes and traits (including disease). Translate genomes into mechanistic insights and actionable understanding (e.g., precision therapy).

-Molecular Mechanism and Therapeutics. Understand and exploit the intricate interplay of proteins and/or other biological macromolecules. Reveal molecular forces driving shapes, interactions, and dynamics, and/or discover therapeutics that usefully modulate human model systems.

We welcome candidates who combine 'wet' experimental approaches with 'dry' computational approaches, or candidates focused more exclusively on computational biomedical sciences.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to mentor students in multiple interdisciplinary graduate programs, including the Joint Carnegie Mellon University–University of Pittsburgh Ph.D. Program in Computational Biology, the Integrative Systems Biology Ph.D. program, and the Computational Biomedicine and Biotechnology Master's Program. We especially seek candidates who have a documented interest in mentoring and other activities to promote engagement and well-being of others.
